Job summary

The Devonshire Lodge Practice has a fantastic opportunity for a receptionist to join their team on a part-time or semi- full-time. If you are an experienced medical receptionist looking for a new and exciting challenge, then we would love to hear from you.

Main duties of the job

Duties can include, but are not limited to,

  • Assisting and directing patients as required
  • Making and amending appointments via telephone and face to face
  • Advising patients of practice procedures
  • Dealing with queries and requests for information from patients and clinicians.
  • Registering new patients

We are a two partners GMS ( General Medical Services ) GP training practice with extensive experience in delivering patient centric, people focused care to it's patient population which is described as multicultural families, elderly and professionals and is in the least deprived decile.

  • Greet patients and visitors to the practice.
  • Book in, amend and cancel patient appointment in-line with practice appointments procedures ensuing optimum efficiency of the appointment system.
  • Ensure that patients without appointments but who need 'urgent consultations are booked into appropriate slots for Telephone Triage and referred to a GP where necessary.
  • Receive and accurately record requests for home visits, assessing urgency in accordance with the Practices protocols.
  • Respond and/or redirect all patient and visitor requests accordingly.
  • Explain practice arrangements and formal requirements to new patients and temporary residents, ensure procedures are completed.
  • Advise patients of relevant charges for private services, accept payment and issue receipts for same.
  • Ensure correspondence, reports, results etc. are filed electronically in correct patient record.
  • Ensure reception and waiting areas are kept neat and tidy
  • Re-stocking of information leaflets as appropriate
  • Answering incoming telephone calls, ensuring calls are documented and redirected accordingly.
  • Undertake administration tasks as allocated on rota organised by Reception supervisor/PM
  • The post holder will take instruction on a day to day basis from the Senior Receptionist. However, the post-holder is expected to be self-directed and self-motivated using their own initiative and requiring minimum input from the Practice Manager. The Post-holders work is formally reviewed by annual appraisal.
  • The post-holder must be proactive in forward planning, identifying and implementing improvements within and beyond their key result areas, anticipating and communicating future internal and external requirements.

  • GCSE grade A to C in English and Maths

Experience

Desirable

  • Experience of general practice reception/admin roles would be preferred, but full training will be provided for candidates with the right attitude.

Experience working with EMIS operating system. Ability to work effectively and positively as part of a team. Fluent in English both verbally and written.
