Job summary

We are a busy and welcoming GP practice located in Hendon NW4and are looking to recruit an experienced and motivated Medical Receptionist to join our team.

The successful candidate will be the first point of contact for patients, both face to face and over the telephone and will play a key role in supporting the delivery of a high standard of patient care.

Main duties of the job

  • Acting as the first point of contact for patients attending the surgery or contacting the practice by telephone
  • Booking amending, and cancelling appointments using the clinical system
  • Handling patient enquiries in a polite professional and confidential manner
  • Supporting clinicians and the wider practice team with administrative tasks
  • Maintaining accurate patient records in line with practice procedures
  • Working effectively as part of a busy frontline team in a fast paced healthcare environment

Full training will be provided for the right candidate.

Essential

  • Previous experience working in a healthcare setting
  • Experience of working in a GP surgery
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work calmly under pressure and manage competing demands
  • Professional courteous, and patient focused approach
  • Good IT and keyboard skills

Desirable

  • Experience using GP clinical systems e.g. EMIS
  • Understanding of NHS primary care processes

About us

We are a well established GP practice with a friendly, supportive and highly experienced team. Our multidisciplinary workforce is committed to delivering high quality patient centred care within a busy primary care environment.

The practice team includes three GP Partners six Salaried GPs three Practice Nurses, and one Healthcare Assistant alongside two Pharmacists Social Prescribers and First Contact Practitioners. The clinical team is supported by an experienced Practice Manager Admin and Reception Managers and a dedicated group of administrative and reception staff who work collaboratively to ensure the smooth running of the practice and excellent service delivery for our patients.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The Medical Receptionist will welcome assist and direct patients in a friendly and efficient manner. The role supports the practice team in delivering high quality patient care. Duties include face to face contact telephone communication and general administrative tasks to ensure the smooth day to day running of the practice.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide an effective and efficient reception service for patients and visitors
  • Greet patients check them in and support them with practice processes
  • Answer incoming telephone calls take accurate messages and pass them on promptly
  • Manage patient enquiries with professionalism care and sensitivity
  • Book amend and cancel appointments using the practice clinical system
  • Explain practice procedures to new patients and support with patient registration
  • Process repeat prescription requests in line with practice policies
  • Record home visit requests accurately and pass details to the duty doctor
  • Maintain clear accurate and up to date patient records on the clinical system
  • File correspondence reports and test results in the correct patient records
  • Support patients with online services and provide basic system guidance
  • Help maintain a clean safe and welcoming reception and waiting area
  • Assist with light kitchen duties and ensure shared areas remain tidy
  • Open the practice when first to arrive and prepare reception for the day
  • Close the practice when last to leave ensuring safety and security
  • Register new patients accurately and efficiently
  • Carry out any reasonable duties requested by Managers or GP Partners
