Job summary

We are a 4 partner GP practice in the heart of Loughton looking for a part time Health care assistant to join our existing friendly team.

We care for around 10,500 patients and have a fantastic support team including 5 GPs,3 Practice Nurses, a HCA, Pharmacists, a Social Prescriber, and a First Contact Physiotherapist. You would be joining a group who work closely to support each other and enjoy what we do.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will have experience in-

Wound care/dressings

Blood pressure checks

Health checks

Smoking cessation

ECGs

Diabetic Foot Checks

B12 and Flu Injections

Urinalysis

There will also be the opportunity to assist our clinicians in minor surgery and well woman clinics.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Responsible to the Practice Nurses and Partners for clinical direction, and subject to the co-ordinating authority of the Practice Manager

Largely self-directing in carrying out the following tasks:

Blood Pressure checks

New Patient Health checks

CVD Risk Health checks

Smoking Cessation clinics

Testing urine samples

Administer flu and pneumonia vaccines where appropriate.

Re-dress wounds

Remove sutures

Diabetic foot checks

ECGs

Ear syringing

Organise clinics including stock check, booking patients, administration/paperwork

Minor Surgery

Joint injections

Hormone implants

Vasectomies

24 Hour blood pressure monitoring

Perform administrative duties and undertake other duties as may be required

Qualifications

  • Trained to NVQ level 2
  • Numerate/literate with legible handwriting
  • Basic computer knowledge
  • Neat and tidy appearance
  • Ability to multi task and work within a team
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure
  • Accurate typing skills and record keeping

Desirable

  • An understanding of the NHS
  • Experience in working with EMIS Web clinical system
  • Experience of working in primary care
  • Ability to work extra hours on occasion if needed
