Job summary

We are looking for an experienced clinical pharmacist with independent prescribing capabilities to join our practice team to aid with delivery of safe, effective prescribing.

The pharmacist would be supported by our friendly team of doctors and there is always a duty doctor for cases that need urgent GP input.

The pharmacist would be welcomed at practice meetings and encouraged to share innovative ideas about medication safety and efficiency.

It is essential that the applicant is a pharmacist who has completed the independent prescriber qualification. It is desirable that the applicant has experience with EMIS web, Docman, Ardens and EPS.

Main duties of the job

We envisage this role including:

Assisting GPs with completing repeat prescriptions via EPS

Responding to medication related queries from patients and community pharmacies

Refining medication monitoring and safety protocols

Audit work

Chronic disease and QOF related work

Ensuring prescribing is cost-effective

Looking at Greener prescribing initiatives

Helping to manage primary/secondary care interface issues

Wychall Lane Partnership is a forward thinking practice that is part of Our Health Partnership, bournville and Northfiekd Primary Care Trust and Birmingham & Solihull ICS. We are a teaching practice with links to Birmingham University. The practice is owned by seven partners with a purpose built building.

Wychall Lane Surgery is a friendly and supportive training practice with a list size of 8500 patients. Our team consists of 7 GP Partners, 1 x Salaried GP, 2 X Practice nurses, 2 x HCA, Reception and Admin staff.

We are active members of Our Health Partnership (OHP) and Bournville and Northfield PCN We are a training practice for both GP registrars and medical students.

We use EMIS Web, Docman, and AccuRx as our primary systems for patient management and communication.

  • Minimum of 3 years post-qualification experience.
  • In depth therapeutic and clinical knowledge and understanding of the principles of evidence based healthcare.
  • An appreciation of the nature of GPs and general practices.
  • An appreciation of the nature of primary care prescribing, concepts of rational prescribing and strategies for improving prescribing.
  • Excellent interpersonal, influencing and negotiating skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good IT skills.
  • Recognises priorities when problem solving and identifies deviations from the normal pattern and is able to refer to seniors or GPs when appropriate.
  • Demonstrates accountability for delivering professional expertise and direct service provision.

Desirable

  • Experience of motivational interviewing and able to train other staff.
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate complex and sensitive information in an understandable form to a variety of audiences.
  • Is able to plan, manage, monitor, advise and review general medicine optimisation issues in core areas for long term conditions.
  • Familiarity with GP systems.
  • Able to obtain and analyse complex technical information.
