Prescription Clerk / Dispensary Assistant

Job summary

This position will serve as the main point of contact for communication between general practitioners (GPs), patients, local chemists, and other members of the primary healthcare team. The main responsibility is to ensure that patient prescriptions are handled promptly and in accordance with the current protocols of the clinic.

The employee in this role will perform various administrative duties throughout the day as part of the team and will also be responsible for overseeing the repeat prescription service, delegating tasks to the Prescription team when necessary.

Additionally, the employee will be responsible for maintaining an efficient prescription service, meeting service targets, and minimising errors.

Main duties of the job

1. The postholder will achieve and demonstrate a thorough knowledge of all practice procedures during their working day

2. You will be expected to process prescriptions that come into the surgery/team

3. The postholder will be expected to manage their workload in an efficient and timely manner

4. Develop, build and communicate effective relationships with external stakeholders e.g., local health authorities

5. Liaise with patients, work colleagues and/or third parties and manage their expectations and requests in a friendly, polite and professional manner at all times
