Job responsibilities
PRIMARY DUTIES & AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
- Provide Treatment Room services. To include, but not limited to: wound care, including compression therapy and leg ulcer management, ear care, cervical cytology, swabs, Doppler assessments, ring changes, blood tests, injections, assistance if required for minor ops.
- Screening. Undertake opportunistic screening including BP, height, weight, BMI, urinalysis, smoking status and alcohol intake.
- Health Promotion. Offer education and motivation for patients to change unhealthy behaviour. Recognise a patients readiness to change. Develop and maintain health promotion material.
- Vaccinations and Immunisations. Administer injections to adults and children; ensure safe storage and disposal of vaccines. Give travel immunisation and advice. All childhood vaccinations. HPV and other teenage immunisations.
- Infection Control. Ensure that the highest infection control standards are met.
- Emergency Management. Be competent in anaphylaxis and resuscitation techniques
- Child Health. Recognise the signs and symptoms of child abuse and be aware of local and statutory procedures
- To contribute towards the development of the nursing services offered by the practice.

Promote evidence-based practice through the use of the latest research-based guidelines and the development of practice-based research.

SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS
The post-holder is required to travel independently between practice sites (where applicable), and to attend meetings.
- The post-holder will have contact with body fluids ie, wound exudates; urine etc while in clinical practice.
Confidentiality:
- In the course of seeking treatment, patients entrust us with, or allow us to gather, sensitive information in relation to their health and other matters. They do so in confidence and have the right to expect that staff will respect their privacy and act appropriately
- In the performance of the duties outlined in this job description, the post-holder may have access to confidential information relating to patients and their carers, practice staff and other healthcare workers. They may also have access to information relating to the practice as a business organisation. All such information from any source is to be regarded as strictly confidential
- Information relating to patients, carers, colleagues, other healthcare workers or the business of the practice may only be divulged to authorised persons in accordance with the practice policies and procedures relating to confidentiality and the protection of personal and sensitive data.
Health & safety:
The post-holder will assist in promoting and maintaining their own and others health, safety and security as defined in the practice Health & Safety policy, the practice Health & Safety manual, and the practice Infection Control policy and published procedures. This will include:
- Using personal security systems within the workplace according to practice guidelines
- Identifying the risks involved in work activities and undertaking such activities in a way that manages those risks
- Making effective use of training to update knowledge and skills
- Using appropriate infection control procedures, maintaining work areas in a tidy and safe way and free from hazards
- Actively reporting of health and safety hazards and infection hazards immediately when recognised
- Keeping own work areas and general / patient areas generally clean, assisting in the maintenance of general standards of cleanliness consistent with the scope of the job holders role
- Undertaking periodic infection control training (minimum annually)
- Reporting potential risks identified
- Demonstrate due regard for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

REHABILITATION OF OFFENDERS ACT 1994 (optional)
Because of the nature of the work, this post is exempt from the provisions of Section 4(2) of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1994 (Exceptions) Order 1995. Applicants for posts are not entitled to withhold information about convictions which for other purposes are spent under the provisions of the Act and in the event of employment any failure to disclose such convictions could result in disciplinary action or dismissal by the Practice. Any information given will be completely confidential and will be considered only in relation to an applicant of a position to which the order applies.
