Job summary
We are looking to recruit a self-motivated and enthusiastic Dispensary Supervisor who has great initiative and great leadership qualities and experience, to act as a professional lead and role model for the technical workforce in the dispensary. The successful applicant will need to be committed to self-development, have strong attention to detail with strong leadership and people skills and be able to work to tight deadlines. Their support is vital to the continuing expansions of our patient focused services at The Fairlands Practice.
Main duties of the job
To be responsible for the
safe, accurate and efficient dispensing of medication to the entitled patient
population, providing advice and support for both patients and colleagues. In
addition, the post holder will be required to manage the dispensary staff and
support the multi-disciplinary team in line with the strategic objectives of
the practice.
The dispensary manager
works alongside a team within general practice. The post holder will be an
integral part of the general practice team.

We are a friendly, forward thinking and innovative training practice, based in Guildford. Fairlands is a 5 Partner GMS Training Practice, with a dedicated team of salaried GPs, Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Paramedics, Practice Nurses, HCAs and admin staff.
We are situated in 2 purpose-built premises within 3 miles of each other, our 2 buildings are located in Fairlands and Normandy, Surrey. You will be based at our Normandy Practice site but you may be required to work at either the Fairlands site or the Normandy site. We have plenty of onsite parking and we serve a population of just over 13,000 patients and have seen significant growth over the last few years.

The main responsibilities of the role include:
- Organising dispensary staff rotas and ensuring adequate staff cover at all times
- Training dispensary staff, including encouraging and organising attendance on relevant recognised courses
- Purchasing and stock control, ad hoc daily ordering of stock and weekly ordering of generic stock
- Weekly checking of DDA stock and ordering as necessary and weekly checking of PAs and ordering as necessary
- Ensuring goods are correctly delivered, checking dispensary invoices against delivery notes and recording items for refunding
- Passing and processing such invoices for payment and checking monthly statements
Maintaining adequate stocks, ensuring timely stock rotation and arranging stock takes in dispensary, CD cupboard and consulting rooms
- Listing and pricing stock and boxing out of date stock
The successful candidate will also :
- Be responsible for DSQS and the Dispensing LES
- Participate in staff meetings and relevant training.
- Be involved with Medicines Optimisation and Doctors Dispensing Authority (DDA).
- Work within other areas of the practice where appropriate to cover for holidays and sickness
- Carry out any other delegated duties considered appropriate to the post.

Essential
- The ideal candidate will be an experienced dispenser, either with current management experience, or looking to gain experience within a management role. Good IT skills and an ability to work within a fast paced environment are also required.
- You will also have a dispensary qualification and the following experience:
- Working in a dispensary with sufficient experience
- Managing others.
- Developing staff and managing absence.
- Ordering medication stock.
- Working to policies, guidelines and operating procedures.
- Ability to use email, Word and Excel.
Desirable
- Experience of working in a GP dispensary
