Job responsibilities

Ensuring patient is comfortable, put at ease and gives consent.

Checking patient identification and confirming wherever possible.

Follow safety guidelines, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to infection control protocols.

Performing venepuncture in accordance with practice procedures and protocols.

Label and store blood samples correctly and preventing contamination.

Recording collection of blood samples in the patient record in accordance with practice procedure.

Ensuring the samples are dispatched to the appropriate laboratories in a timely fashion. To assist in phlebotomy stock ordering and maintaining adequate stocks of consumables and equipment in the work area, take delivery of stores and identify shortages of any items.

Membership of MDDUS provided by the Practice.

Experience

Essential

• Good interpersonal and communication skills
• open friendly and the ability to work on your own as well as part of a team.
• Adaptable and flexible, willing to learn
• Good written skills
• Effective time management skills
• Aware of own limitations
• Flexibility will be required for sickness and annual leave cover

Desirable

• knowledge of EMIS Web
