Job summary
We are looking for a medical receptionist to join our team and the key responsibilities of the role are:
- To provide a highly professional point of contact for patients at all times.
- To ensure an efficient service for patients.
- To facilitate communication between patients and the Health Care Team.
- To work with the Reception Team Lead in order to identify areas of patient services that can be improved and work towards solutions so that improvements can be made, for the benefit of both patients and Practice.
Main duties of the job
General:
- To act on own initiative and be able to work without direct supervision once trained and assessed as competent.
- To take responsibility for own actions within the scope of the delegated tasks and responsibilities.
- To work at all times within own limitations and competencies as agreed with Reception Manager.
- To provide sickness and annual leave cover when required.
Reception:
- To provide effective administrative support for the clinical and management teams.
- To complete duties effectively within the guidance of protocols.
- Ensure efficiency of surgery appointments and monitor the flow of patients into consulting and treatment rooms.
- Ensure that patients without appointments but who need an urgent consultation are put through to triage correctly or sign posted appropriately.
- Explain practice arrangements and formal requirements to new patients and those seeking temporary cover, ensuring procedures are completed.
- Respond to all queries and requests for assistance from patients and other visitors.
- Deal with requests for home visits and enter onto the computer system including all relevant information and where necessary refer to the Duty Team.
- Ensure reception, consulting/treatment rooms and waiting areas are kept neat and tidy and restocked.
- Ensure appropriate actions are taken to protect patient confidentiality at all times.
- Provide a point of contact for patients with enquires related to prescriptions.

We are a large practice with 15,800 patients with 8 GP partners, 3 salaried doctors, 10 nurses and 27 administrative staff. We are also a training practice supporting GP registrars and medical students.
