Job summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic, professional, and reliable Clinical Assistant/ HCA to join our excellent Nursing Team and Practice. Experience working within a General Practice environment and phlebotomy skills are desirable and preferred, with salary negotiable dependent on experience. A friendly personality, competent clinical skills, and an ability to work autonomously within a busy team environment is essential.
Main duties of the job
To provide nursing support to the Practice Nurses and General Practitioners to ensure the efficient and effective provision of the full range of nursing services to the patients of the practice with appropriate training.
The post holder will work under the indirect supervision of the Lead Nurses and Practice management team to undertake tasks and duties they have been delegated whilst following clear policies and procedures.
The post will also include administrative duties.

competencies in anaphylaxis treatment, resuscitation techniques, nebulisation

Clinical Administration
- Maintain accurate patient records on EMIS Web
and process incoming documents through EMIS Web and Docman.
- Ensure PSDs and National Protocols are read, signed, and
filed appropriately.
- Creating and sending relevant referrals and liaising with the
administration team to follow up on appointments or advice and guidance.
- Docman
filing, coding and actioning any relevant incoming documentation, including
diabetes retinal screening results, appointment DNAs, foot examination
results, home blood pressure readings, pharmacy and other healthcare provider
vaccination documentation, and any miscellaneous inbound documents.
- Recalls: support the Clinical Performance
team with recalls via multiple methods for immunisations, health screening,
chronic disease reviews and safety netting.
- Attending the weekly recall meeting to liaise
with the Nursing, Pharmacists on recalls, targets and performance.
- Assisting the performance & compliance team with any relevant reporting
and auditing.
- Assist the management team in setting up Flu clinics, preparing equipment and
information packs, and assisting with vaccination administration and patient
flow.

with the housebound vaccination programme where appropriate.

knowledge of National Health programmes and services.
General Duties
- Maintaining stock levels in
clinical rooms, including minor surgery stock and reception stock where
necessary. Management of the stock room and ensuring stock rotation. Removal
and disposal of out of date stock.
- Ordering clinical stock and
information, documenting quantities and order numbers for reference.
- Equipment: locating, labelling, cleaning and
replacing surgery equipment and ensuring equipment is readily available to the
practice including the removal and replacement of sharps bins.
- Arranging and
managing annual PAT and Calibration Testing.
- Managing the equipment available
for loan to patients, arranging and documenting collection and return,
labelling, managing patient information and recording documents.
- Managing and
maintaining the emergency medication cupboard and bags, ensuring all stock is
easily accessible, in date and readily available.
- Cold
Chain: ensure safe storage, rotation and disposal of vaccines and other fridge
stored medications. Twice daily recording of fridge temperatures and monthly
data log reporting. Ensure vaccines are transferred in accordance with the cold
chain policy. Reporting any cold chain breaches or fridge issues to the relevant
person/ team.
- Maintain continuous professional
development in keeping with the requirements of the practice.
- Support the
provision of health promotion and disease prevention.
- Attend the weekly clinical and recall meetings. Attend and minute any other
relevant meetings, such as nursing/ pharmacist team meetings andclinical
performance meetings.
