Whitstable Medical Practice is looking for a friendly, motivated Health Care Assistant to join our supportive and experienced clinical team.
This is a varied role combining general HCA duties within our medical practice and support for our Dermatology service across multiple sites in East Kent.

Main duties of the job
This Health Care Assistant opportunity is to support Clinical Services and General Medical Services (GMS) at our medical centres. Mileage will be paid from Estuary View Medical Centre to Dermatology Clinic locations, with travel time paid for selected locations.
The hourly rate for this role is £12.42, increasing to £13.80 after successful completion of probationary period.
Hours
General HCA Hours
- Monday 8am to 1pm.
- Tuesday or Wednesday afternoon (2pm to 6.30pm) to be confirmed at offer
- Total 9.5 hours
Clinical Services (Dermatology)
- Thursday 8am to 4pm
to be located in Ramsgate or Folkestone
- Friday 8am to 4.30pm
to be located in Whitstable or Sittingbourne
- Total 16.5 hours
One Saturday per
month 8am to 2pm (1.5 hours per week equivalent over a month)
Total contracted hours - 27.5 hours per week

Main Duties of the Job
To work as a team
member under supervision of the Treatment Room Nurses and Dermatology
Clinicians to provide and maintain an optimum level of care for our patients.
Responsibilities
- Supporting clinicians in a theatre setting with Minor Surgical
procedures.
- Performing stock control functions: proactively keeping cupboards
and trolleys well stocked and tidy, sending stock requests through to the
relevant administrator for ordering. Unpacking deliveries of stock. Re-stocking
and checking clinical rooms as needed.
- Filling the hand-held liquid nitrogen as required.
- Unlocking treatment room cupboards and ensuring all equipment is set
up for the day. Setting up clinics with the correct equipment for the specific
service and putting equipment away after the clinic has finished.
- Working alongside the clinicians in the provision of patient care.
- Undertaking measurements of blood pressure, temperature and pulse.
Filing of patient information and entering results of Blood Pressures,
Urinalysis and other observation on the patients medical records.
- Recognising changes in the patients observations, which must be
reported and acted on.
- Assisting clinicians in emergency management of patients.
- Acting as a chaperone.
- Providing relevant health promotion and literature for patients.
- Taking Blood Samples from Patients (Phlebotomy)
- Checking vaccine refrigerators daily and recording the temperature.
Maintaining cold chain for all vaccines.
- Answering phone and dealing with queries, liaising with the nursing
staff.
Clinical Care
Work alongside the clinicians in the provision of patient care.
Undertake and record a range of tasks, which may include:
- Measurement of height and weight
- Urinalysis
- Measurement of blood pressure, temperature and pulse
- Peak flow measurements
- Recording of ECGs / 24 hour BPs / 24 hour ECGs/ 7 day ECGs
- Phlebotomy
- Undertaking diabetic foot checks
- Assisting with leg ulcer clinics / simple dressings
- Assisting with Family Planning Clinics
- Assist nurses in INR clinics and doctors in Minor Op clinics
- Assisting clinicians in a theatre
- Undertake health checks
- Enable patients to access appropriate professionals in the practice
team.
Other duties as per nurses and doctors instructions as
dictated by changes in the nature of Whitstable Medical Practice.
