Job summary
Whitstable Medical Practice operate an independent community based NHS Imaging service performing 6000 NHS ultrasound scans per year, including NOUS, NG12 Cancer and DVT scanning. This position
provides an exciting opportunity to work independently in a progressive GP practice
that provides ultrasound alongside many other diagnostic services.
Main scanning location at Estuary View Medical Centre (Whitstable) plus expanding number of outreach clinics. Referrals are received from GPs, EKHUFT and Urgent Treatment Centres.
We are looking for someone to work 24 hours a week on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Salary is competitive, dependent on experience and equivalent to Band 8b.

Main duties of the job
This position
provides an exciting opportunity to work independently in a progressive GP practice
that provides ultrasound alongside many other diagnostic services.
Additional hours are also available at weekends which would be paid at a time and half of the normal hourly rate. The salary is attractive and competitive and not
restricted to agenda for change banding. Holiday entitlement and NHS pension is
available.
The post entails
non-obstetric ultrasound including the cancer pathway (NG12s), DVTs, small
parts, general abdominal and gynaecological scans on good quality static
machines. As a Practice we have supported staff through the MSK training programme. This maybe considered for the successful candidate on a fully funded basis.
The successful
applicant would be expected to work independently, but alongside a team of
experienced and enthusiastic sonographers who will provide support. You will be
joining a cohesive team of sonographers, radiographers, advanced practitioners
and GPs who will work closely with you.
Participation in
peer review audit, as per the BMUS guidelines, is expected along with
attendance at our friendly, regular ultrasound governance meetings where we
discuss interesting cases and new trends.
The candidate must
be HPC registered and have ultrasound experience in the UK. A post graduate
ultrasound qualification is essential.

Ensure that all Ultrasound referrals are
evaluated and prioritised according to Departmental protocol and clinical
information.
Seek clinical clarity where Ultrasound
requests are equivocal.
Manage the Ultrasound referral workload in
terms of both individual list management as well as the wider service
requirements.
Display a high level of dexterity within the
realms of the ultrasound department protocols.
Maintain a high level of accuracy whilst
performing each specialised ultrasound examination.
Provide general abdominal, pelvic, small
parts, Lumps and bumps, vascular and MSK ultrasound scanning services in
conjunction with other Sonographers and health care professionals.
Independently perform ultrasound scanning
duties to the required standards of Whitstable Medical Practice to produce a
clinical report for each ultrasound scan undertaken.
Undertake any administrative duties that may
be necessary for speedy progression of patients and patient results.
Actively participate in matters concerning
clinical governance, clinical audit and assessment.
To have responsibility for ensuring active
participation in continuing professional development (CPD).
Adhere to company policy and procedures in terms
of health and safety, data protection and confidentiality.
Give full co-operation in any investigations
of a complaint or untoward incident and comply with company procedure to that
effect.
Ensure that professional and technical
knowledge/expertise is kept up to date and to maintain a portfolio to show
evidence of personal professional development.
Participate in individual performance review
(appraisal) on an annual basis.
Ensure the safe use & maintenance of
ultrasound equipment and report any faults to the appropriate person.
