Job summary

The post holder will provide general medical services, dealing with a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting, ensuring the highest standards of care for all registered and temporary patients.

We are looking for a Salaried UTC GP for our Urgent Treatment Centre for 2.5 - 5 sessions per week to focus on Acute and Emergency Care. The candidate will be working along side our well established team of Nurse Practitioners, Paramedics and UTC Technicians.

The role involves working amongst a multidisciplinary team in the Estuary View UTC. Independently and collaboratively managing both booked and walk in patients appropriate to the skill set of the appointee.

About us

Whitstable Medical Practice is a forward thinking single practice Primary Care Network (PCN) GP Practice based across 3 sites in Whitstable. There are 26 equity partners and 6 salaried GPs looking after over 43,500 patients. There are also 22 Allied Health Professionals directly employed - Clinical Pharmacy Team, Frailty Practitioners, Social Prescribers, First Contact Physiotherapists, Podiatrist and Mental Health Practitioners.

We pride ourselves on our innovative approach to Primary Care. We are a training practice and run various in house contracts including Cataract surgery, Ultrasound, Dermatology, Physical Therapies and Audiology together with further community contracts, a Day Surgery Suite and an Urgent Treatment Centre with digital x-ray.

Job responsibilities

Main purpose of the role:

The role involves working amongst a multidisciplinary team in the Estuary View UTC. Independently and collaboratively managing both booked and walk in patients appropriate to the skill set of the appointee.

Clinical responsibilities:

  • Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation.
  • Recording clear and contemporaneous computer based consultation notes to agreed standards;
  • Collecting data for audit purposes;
  • Compiling and issuing computer generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoiding hand-written prescriptions whenever possible);
  • Prescribing in accordance with locally agreed or national guidelines;

Other responsibilities with the Practice:

  • Teaching and training of doctors and nurses;
  • Awareness of compliance with all relevant practice policies/guidelines, eg prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety, CQC and annual QOF assessment of the Practice;
  • A commitment to life long learning and audit to ensure evidence based best practice;
  • Keep a portfolio;
  • Contributing to evaluation/audit and clinical standard setting within the organisation;
  • Contributing to the development of computer based patient records;
  • Attending training, Practice Meetings and events organised by the Practice or other agencies where appropriate;
  • Meet all tight timescales/deadlines for audits and written returns to ensure that the Practice meets quality standards and receives the designated funding (eg Enhanced Services returns, annual QOF audit etc).

  • Assess own performance and take accountability for own actions, either directly or under supervision;
