Main duties of the job
As a Primary Care Paramedic at Priory Medical Centre, you will play a key role in providing urgent and same-day care to our patients. On a day-to-day basis, you will assess and manage patients presenting with undifferentiated or acute conditions, perform clinical examinations, make decisions about treatment or onward referral, and provide home visits when needed. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team alongside GPs, Advanced Practitioners, Clinical Pharmacists, Nurses, and administrative staff, supporting the duty team to manage on-the-day demand efficiently and safely.
Your responsibilities will include taking detailed patient histories, performing assessments, developing and implementing care plans, administering treatments, and maintaining accurate, contemporaneous clinical records. You will be expected to work autonomously within your scope of practice while adhering to practice protocols, clinical governance standards, and safeguarding procedures.

About us
Priory Medical Centre is a well-established Warwick GP Partnership with a list size of approximately 18,900 patients and one branch surgery. We have 5 GP Partners and a full complement of additional staff including Salaried GPs, Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Practice Nurses, Health Care Assistants and administrative support. We are a recognised training practice for GP Registrars.
In June 2021, the practice moved into a brand new purpose built surgery designed with patient care in mind. The new building will be a modern, energy efficient & fit for purpose building that will enable the practice to provide better services to our patients. As a result of having the new facilities available, the practice closed the main Cape Road surgery, along with the Cape Road branch surgery. The new facilities will act as the main surgery, with a branch surgery still available to patients on Woodloes Park at the following address: 1 Brese Avenue, Woodloes Park, Warwick, CV34 5TS.

The following are the core responsibilities of the Paramedic delivering health services.
a. Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team within the organisation
b. Assess and triage patients, during either Home Visits or dedicated in house clinics, and as appropriate provide definitive treatment (including prescribing medications following policy, patient group directives, NICE (national) and local clinical guidelines and local care pathways) or make necessary referrals to other members of the primary care team
c. Advise patients on general healthcare and promote self-management where appropriate, including signposting patients to the social prescribing service and, where appropriate, other community or voluntary services
d. Be able to:
- Perform specialist health checks and reviews within their scope of practice and in line with local and national guidance
- Perform investigatory procedures as required and undertake the collection of pathological specimens including intravenous blood samples, swabs and other samples within their scope of practice and within line of local and national guidance
e. Support the delivery of anticipatory care plans and lead certain services (e.g., monitoring blood pressure and diabetes risk of elderly patients)
f. Provide an alternative model to urgent and same day GP home visit for the organisation
g. Communicate at all levels across organisations ensuring that an effective, person-centred service is delivered
h. Communicate proactively and effectively with all colleagues across the MDT, attending and contributing to meetings as required
i. Maintain accurate and contemporaneous health records appropriate to the consultation, ensuring accurate completion of all necessary documentation associated with patient healthcare and registration with the organisation
j. Communicate effectively with patients and, when appropriate, family members and their carers, where applicable, complex and sensitive information regarding their physical health needs, results, findings and treatment choices
k. Receive referrals and directed patients from triage services and other clinicians
l. Maintain accurate clinical records in conjunction with extant legislation
m. Develop yourself and the role through participation in clinical supervision, training and service redesign activities
n. Actively signpost patients to the correct healthcare professional
o. Review the latest guidance, ensuring the organisation conforms to NICE, CQC etc.

u. Attend a formal appraisal with your manager at least every 12 months. Once a performance/training objective has been set, progress will be reviewed on a regular basis so that new objectives can be agreed
