GP Practice Receptionist

Job summary

We are looking for a Receptionist to join our friendly, brilliant Front of House Team. This is a busy and challenging role with opportunities for career progression and one which will require you to be an organised, customer focused person with good IT skills - this is essential. Previous experience of working in a GP Surgery is a plus but not essential as full training will be provided to the right candidate.

We are looking for someone to cover 8am - 1pm5 days a week and someone who will be able to help cover when colleagues are away.

Main duties of the job

  1. To use EMIS WEB computer system to make appointments for patients in accordance with the current surgery appointment policy.
  2. To handle queries both in person and over the telephone according to protocol and signpost according to protocol. In circumstances where a query cannot be answered to make appropriate referral.
  3. To ensure, along with other members of the reception team, that the reception area is always manned, and the telephones are answered promptly.
  4. Ensure waiting area is kept tidy, and notice board and tabletop leaflet displays are updated regularly.
  5. Take requests for visits, ensuring all required information is recorded accurately on and passed to the relevant clinician in a timely manner according to protocol

About us

Plashet Harmony Practice is a small practice in the East Ham, Newham. We have a list size of approximately 2400 people. Whilst we are smaller than other Practices in the nearby area we are very busy and we are looking for someone who can keep up in a busy environment and who loves a challenge.

We have one named GP (male) and one regular locum female GP and we have an experienced nursing team, including a nurse practitioner and a variety of additional roles gained through the PCN including pharmacists.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  1. To use EMIS WEB computer system to make appointments for patients in accordance with the current surgery appointment policy.
  2. To handle queries both in person and over the telephone according to protocol and signpost according to protocol. In circumstances where a query cannot be answered to make appropriate referral.
  3. To ensure, along with other members of the reception team, that the reception area is always manned, and the telephones are answered promptly.

  7. Ensure that all communication, appointments and other messages are logged under receptionists own identification details as is practicable.
  8. To undertake administrative and other tasks as requested by the Practice Manager and clinicians.
  9. To support necessary changes for Plashet Harmony Practice to implement identified system changes.
  10. To undertake mandatory training and comply with all surgery regulations and procedures.
  11. To attend practice and staff meetings as required.
  12. To be aware of procedures to evacuate patients in case of emergency.
  13. To secure the building, setting the exit alarm when last to leave the premises, when applicable.
  14. To adhere to the infection control and Health & Safety policy.
  15. Maintain confidentiality and always show respect for patients and colleagues.
  16. To cover colleagues for holidays and sickness as required
