Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated GP Receptionist to join our well-established, friendly and high-achieving GMS practice. We are an 6 partner practice with a registered patient population of 15,400

You will be responsible for maintaining a high level of quality reception service to visitors and will bring NHS experience to the practice. Experience of SystmOne is desirable but not essential as training will be given.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate I.T. skills and strong communication skills with an ability to pay attention to detail. They must also be able to adapt easily to changes within the NHS and cope with the high level of demand of working on a busy reception desk.

Main duties of the job

Respond to all requests by patients requiring appointments with member of the clinical team, ensuring adherence to the practice protocol for booking appointments

Explain practice arrangements and formal requirements to new patients and those seeking temporary cover.

Using your own judgment and communication skills ensure that patients with no prior appointment but who need urgent consultation are management appropriately.

Advise patients of relevant charges for private services, accept payment and issue receipts for same.

Enter requests for home visits and telephone calls into the appointments system, including all relevant information.

Ensure that requests for prescriptions are processed within the practice set time frame.

Management of electronic repeat dispensing.

About us

We are a large, long-established and busy practice based in the West End of Newcastle The practice is a purpose built building and we have a diverse patient population.

The practice team comprises:-

GP partners.

Nursing team comprising nurse practitioner, practices nurses and HCA's.

Large reception and administrative team.

Strong links with the Newcastle Inner West Primary Care Network and North East & North Cumbria ICB.

Extensive use of IT to improve access, efficiency and quality (clinical system SystmOne).

Long, well established working relationships with all attached staff including midwives, health visitors, district nurses, PCN team (pharmacists, social prescribing link workers, dietitian).

Experienced training practice and involved with teaching of GP Registrars and medical students.
