Job summary

To support the practice nursing team and administrative teams in the delivery of clinical services. Working as part of a muti-disciplinary team, delivering care within your scope of practice to our practice population.

Main duties of the job

  • New patient / NHS health checks
  • Venepuncture
  • Baseline observations - blood pressure, temperature, pulse, weight, height.
  • Facilitate 24hr blood monitoring
  • Wound care
  • B12, shingles, pneumonia, flu vaccines under a PSD
  • ECG's
  • Ensuring all clinical rooms are stocked and prepared for each session
  • Ensure fridges are routinely cleaned in accordance with guidance.
  • Twice daily fridge monitoring
  • Clinical waste removal from all clinical rooms

About us

Wingerworth Medical Centre is situated in the heart of Wingerworth and is a forward-thinking training practice.

Our Nursing Team consists of a Diabetic Specialist Nurse, Practice Nurse, Nursing Associate and Healthcare Assistant.

We have two GP Partners and 6 salaried GP's and one GP Retainer.

The team is strong, helpful and friendly.

As a practice we are always looking at ways to improve our service to our patients.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The HCA role is to assist our GP's and Nurses in the delivery of care for our patients. Duties and responsibilities will include, but not be confined to: -

  • New patient health checks and NHS Health Checks.
  • Venepuncture and the taking and preparing of pathology samples.
  • Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature and pulse rate. Calculate weight and height measurements, calculate BMI and blood sugar levels, recording findings accurately onto our clinical system.
  • Facilitate routine and 24-hour BP monitoring.
  • Undertake wound care, dressings and other clinical tasks as required.
  • Chaperoning duties
  • Flu vaccinations, B12, Shingles, pneumonia vaccines under PSD.
  • Carry out ECGs as requested.
  • Carry out spirometry testing.
  • Annual health check for Learning Disability patients.
  • Ensure all clinicals rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session.
  • Ensure fridges are routinely cleaned in accordance with guidance.
  • Twice daily fridge temperature monitoring.
  • Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the IPC policy.
  • Helping to raise awareness of health and well-being and how it can be promoted.
  • Assisting with the collection and collation of data on needs related to health and wellbeing.
  • Infection Control procedures are adhered to.
  • Complete administrative duties as required.
  • Ensure clinical waste collections run smoothly, reporting any problems to the nursing team.

Experience

Essential

  • Experienced health care assistant who is/has worked in a health environment.
  • Experience in working in a busy environment.

Desirable

  • Experience of working as a Health Care Assistant in an NHS environment.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Education to GCSE or above
  • Work appropriate NVQ3

Desirable

  • Qualified in Phlebotomy
  • Qualified to NVQ level 3
