A fantastic opportunity has arisen to join Brampton Medical Practice in the role of Finance Manager. The role is supported by an established Deputy Finance Manager and external payroll services provider.

The role is offered on a hybrid basis with flexibility to work from home or be office based if that is preferred. There would be a requirement to attend the practice site on a regular basis for meetings and training.

Main duties of the job

To manage and coordinate all aspects of practice finances and payroll (payroll is also supported by an external service provider), optimising efficiency and financial performance, ensuring the practice achieves its long-term strategic objectives. Through innovative ways of working, drive to achieve NHS targets and changes within a profitable, efficient practice environment, supporting the management team in promoting continuous development and financial stability.

We are a rural 6 partner GP Practice, operating across 4 sites (2 in Brampton, 1 in Corby Hill and 1 in Wetheral) serving around 16'700 patients.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The following are the core outline responsibilities of the Finance Manager and the list is not

exhaustive. There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks. This will be

dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:

a. Manage practice finances, support the Practice in maximising income and reducing expenditure

b. Accurately monitor cash flow, forecast and predict workflow corresponding to income

c. Review all income and expenditure statements, identifying any inaccuracies and rectifying

such issues

d. Ensure invoices are approved appropriately and paid within the given time frame

e. Maintain an effective system for the handling of petty cash, payments and banking

f. Liaising with the practices accountants regarding VAT, year end accounts and queries

g. Manage and oversee the organisations pension scheme, retaining accurate records (supported by the practice external payroll provider). Submissions to NHS England regarding Exposure-Prone Procedures (EPPs)

h. Manage partners drawings (practice accountants advise levels and finance manager sets up payment)

I. Oversee PAYE for the practice which is supported by and administered by an external payroll provider

j. Approve the ordering of practice supplies (clinical and non-clinical) ensuring that robust

processes are in place

k. In conjunction with other members of the senior management team, manage and submit

timely claims for enhanced services and other contract and practice private income.

l. Present financial forecasts to senior management and partners as and when required

m. Ensure the presentation of monthly financial reports is of a high standard

n. Ensure that effective financial controls are in place and processes are adhered to

o. Understand and brief the management team on the financial implications of contract and

legislation changes affecting the organisation

p. Maintain an effective working relationship with the ICB, ensuring the organisation receives a

proportionate and equitable allocation of resources

Secondary responsibilities

In addition to the primary responsibilities, the Finance Manager may be requested to:

a. Act as the primary point of contact for finance-related matters with NHSE, the ICB and the

practices accountant

b. Attend and actively participate in practice management meetings

c. Attend any external meetings pertinent to the role of Finance Manager
