Job summary
We are looking for a kind, compassionate Practice Nurse to join our forward thinking, tight-knit team. Working in general practice will enable you to build
meaningful relationships with patients, play a vital role in a practice team
alongside a range of health professionals, and give more personal care to
patients.
We are offering 16-20 hours per week, with scope to increase overtime as we continue to grow (or to become a job-share).
Our operating hours are Monday to Friday 08:00-18:30.
We need cover on Fridays and are happy to be flexible on other days.
Main duties of the job
The role of thepractice nurseis to be responsible for the delivery
of practice nursing services, working as part of the practice multidisciplinary
team, delivering care within their scope of practice to the patient population.
The practice nurse will be responsible for a number of clinical areas such as
health promotion, long-term condition management, health prevention,
vaccination, well women and well man clinics, as well as supporting the
management team in the reviewing of clinical policy and procedure.
The successful candidate will be highly
organised, flexible, and able to prioritise effectively. They will be highly
observant, able to assess patients and take responsibility for determining the
best course of action. As with all nursing roles, communication skills, problem
solving, and good judgement are crucial.
Previous General Practice / primary care experience would be helpful but is not a requirement.
The
post holder will work as part of a small clinical team consisting of three GPs, two nurses, two healthcare assistants and team of support staff. They will be responsible for sharing clinical admin duties and checks and there is a wide range of training opportunities available to help maintain competencies and develop new skills and areas of specialism.

Quedgeley Medical Centre (QMC) is a family run GP practice in Quedgeley, a suburban town of Gloucester and located 3.5 miles southwest of the city centre. With approx. 7,500 patients, QMC is a growing practice with a relatively small team comprised of doctors, nurses, healthcare assistants, administrative/secretarial staff, pharmacists, and others. Primary responsibilities include:
- Identify,
manage, and support patients at risk of developing long-term conditions,
preventing adverse effects on the patients health
- Provide
routine nursing care to patients as required in accordance with clinical based
evidence (e.g. NICE)

vaccination and travel medicine services
- Provide
wound care (ulcer, compression bandaging, Doppler etc.) to patients
- Phlebotomy
- Request
pathology services as necessary
- Process
pathology results as required
- Provide
long-term condition clinics, delivering patient care as necessary, referring
patients to secondary / specialist care as required
- Maintain
accurate clinical records
- Ensure
read codes are used effectively
- Maintain
long-term condition registers
- Assess
and treat minor illness

and implement well woman clinics and well man clinics

and implement vaccination programmes

health issues and intervene appropriately

assess, and refer patients presenting with mental health needs
