Job summary
The
Primary Care Nurse Education Lead will play a pivotal role in supporting,
developing, and enhancing the primary care nursing workforce across Tameside.
The post holder will provide leadership in education, mentorship, and clinical
supervision, ensuring high-quality patient care through a skilled and competent
workforce.
This
role will work collaboratively with the Tameside Primary Care Training Academy,
the GM Training Hub, and local practices to deliver structured learning
opportunities and professional development for Practice Nurses, Nursing
Associates, and Healthcare Assistants (HCAs).
Main duties of the job
Education & Workforce Development
- Host and facilitate monthly Practice Nurse Forum meetings to support shared learning and professional networking.
- Work closely with the GM Training Hub to promote and coordinate access to education and training opportunities.
- Support and supervise Practice Nurses, including those new to practice, in managing:
- Long Term Conditions
- Asthma (adult and paediatric)
- COPD
- Diabetes
- Deliver and oversee training aligned to the RCGP competency framework for:
- Travel vaccinations
- Immunisations
- Supervise and support:
- Practice Nurses undertaking cervical cytology training
- Nursing Associates (as required)
- New nurses and HCAs completing GM Training Hub GPN modules
- Signpost HCAs to relevant e-learning and competency development (e.g. diabetic foot checks, spirometry).
- Facilitate quarterly Healthcare Assistant forums.
- Deliver ad hoc educational sessions, particularly in:
- Complex Type 2 diabetes
- Asthma management
- Promote and communicate opportunities for utilisation of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) budgets.
- Support participation of community nurses in TARGET training (higher professional development programme in Tameside).

- Work collaboratively within the Tameside Primary Care Training Academy, alongside a GP Lead and Practice Manager Lead.
- Attend and contribute to Training Academy meetings.
- Work with support from a part-time administrative staff member.
- Ensure effective use of the training and education budget held by Stalybridge PCN.
- Maintain accurate records of training, supervision, and workforce development activities.
