Job summary

We are looking for an experienced Healthcare assistant (HCA) to work alongside our friendly nursing team. We are looking to employ someone to work 20 hours per week over 4 mornings. Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Main duties of the job

Main duites will include; Phlebotomy, Blood pressure checks, wound care, dressings, suture removal, ECGs, Fitting 24 hour BP & 72 hour ECG, assisting clincians with minor ops and gynae, ordering stock, infection control

About us

We are a 4 partner teaching practice with 5 salaried GPS, 1 prescribing nurse, 1 practice nurse and a Associate Practitioner Nurse. We also have an ACP and various additional roles from our PCN (Apollo PCN). We are a dispensing practice and have a very qualified reception nd admin team. We are based in a Rural area of North Warwickshire looking after 3 care homes. We strive to give the best patient care possible whilst sustaining a family friendly GP Practice.

Job responsibilities

Job Role & Purpose

The post holder is a HCA who, working under the direct supervision of the senior practice nurse and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols, the healthcare assistant will assist the practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programs of patient care.

Key duties

New patient health checks

ECG recording

Phlebotomy

Administering vaccines including Flu and B12

QOF Reviews

Ear Irrigation

Dressing Changes

Memory checks

Assist in minor surgery

Assist in coil and implanon

24HR ABPM

72 HR ECG

Chaperoning duties

Processing and management of laboratory samples requested by GPs/nurses

Sterilising, cleansing and maintenance of surgical equipment

Vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring and recording

Surgical equipment and vaccine re-stocking and stock rotation

Clearing and re-stocking consulting rooms

Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions, including assisting GPs during the performance of minor operations

Assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patients health and well-being

Undertaking specific clinical activities for named patients that have been delegated and taught specifically in relation to that individual

Helping to raise awareness of health and well-being and how it can be promoted

Assisting with the collection and collation of data on needs related to health and well-being

Communication and relationships

To be an active and engaged team player, supporting Hazelwood and with its aims and objectives.

To actively participate in team meetings.

To read and respond to emails and messages

Utilise and demonstrate sensitive communication styles, to ensure patients are fully informed and consent to treatment

Communicate with and support patients who are receiving bad news

Communicate effectively with patients and carers, recognising the need for alternative methods of communication to overcome different levels of understanding, cultural background and preferred ways of communicating

Anticipate barriers to communication and take action to improve communication

Maintain effective communication within the practice environment and with external stakeholders

Act as an advocate for patients and colleagues

Ensure awareness of sources of support and guidance (eg PALS) and provide information in an acceptable format to all patients, recognising any difficulties and referring where appropriate
