Job summary

We are a busy town centre practice looking to recruit a friendly phlebotomist who will fit in well with our clinical team. We are a medium sized practice with 10,150 patients with a diverse practice population. We are also a training and teaching practice committed to investing in clinicians of the future.

Main duties of the job

You will have your own structured appointment books for blood tests, NHS health checks, ECGs and others. You will be responsible for clinical stock checking and ordering and also maintaining the fridge temperature logs. Please see job description for full list

About us

We have 7 GPs and 2 practice nurses, a Business Practice Manager and an Office Manager. We also have a number of reception and admin staff who are vital in the day to running of the practice. We are a friendly bunch who are always happy to help a colleague when needed, we support each other in our day to day work which can sometimes be a challenging environment

Job responsibilities

Responsible for: Our aim is to provide a high standard of clinical care in a General practice setting. We are responsive to patients needs in improving and caring for their health requirements. It is expected that all duties will be carried out courteously and efficiently with total confidentiality. Peel GPs always require a high standard of patient and business confidentiality.

Main Duties:

Patients

  1. Providing screening and health education advice under the supervision of a registered healthcare professional.
  2. Working collaboratively within the team to meet the needs of the patients following agreed policy and procedures, standards and guidelines
  3. Undertake the collection, storage and dispatch of pathological specimens
  4. Perform investigatory procedures requested by the GPs

Clinical Skills

  1. Undertake, record and follow guidelines for the tasks for which you have received appropriate training
  2. Urinalysis
  3. Blood Pressure
  4. Pulse rate and rhythm
  5. Temperature
  6. Height and weight
  7. Smoking and alcohol status
  8. Venepuncture

Practice

  1. Promote the services of Peel GPs in a professional manner

  4. Participate in Practice learning sessions

General Housekeeping

  1. Attend and comply with Health & Safety training and regulations
    • Identifying the risks involved in work activities and undertaking such activities in a way that manages those risks
    • Effective use of training to update knowledge and skills
    • The use of infection control procedures, maintaining work areas in a tidy, safe and hazard free area
    • Handling of specimens
    • Handling and disposal of waste materials
    • Cleaning of equipment to agreed standard
    • Maintain cold chain
    • To report potential risks identified to the Business Practice Manager
  2. Maintaining an accurate control of medical stock in main storerooms and clinical rooms which also includes checking expiry dates
  3. Attend any other training/updates as required for your post
  4. Participate in annual appraisal or reviews
  5. Attendance at training sessions e.g. in-house and/or external
  6. Valid membership of professional bodies where required
  7. Attend and comply with Health & Safety training and regulations
  8. To work according to Practice policies and procedures and within the scope of your skills and training and Peel GPs standard of delivery services.
