Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work with a dynamic and friendly practice located in the idyllic town of Bradford on Avon (with river, canal and architecture), 8 miles south east from Bath.

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic practice/registered nurse. The job includes carrying out routine nursing duties, child immunisations, cervical screening, chronic disease management and leg ulcer care.

The post holder is responsible for the delivery of basic practice nursing services care to the practice population. Supported by senior nurses within the practice, they will deliver care within the boundaries of their role, focusing upon supporting patients to be healthy, monitoring of long-term conditions, health prevention and screening activities. They will work collaboratively with the general practice team to meet the needs of patients, supporting the delivery of policy and procedures, and providing nurse leadership as required.

Main duties of the job

To assess and treat patients with chronic conditions and ensure the smooth running of clinics within agreed protocols, and to ensure targets are met

Able to document consultations according to NMC guidelines

Ensures awareness of statutory and local clinical protection procedures, including systems of referral.Ability to recognise signs and symptoms of abuse.

Perform a holistic assessment of patients attending for cervical cytology smear tests.

Perform venepuncture according to local guidelines

Provide a holistic approach to wound management and implement wound care in line with current evidence based guidelines, including Doppler.

Suture removal.

Carry out ECGs

Offer advice about childhood and adult vaccinations and ensure vaccines are administered under patient group directions.

Able to recognize and manage anaphylaxis according to currentUKguidelines.

Able to perform Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation according to currentUKguidelines.

Assist in the provision of minor surgery.

Ensure infection control guidelines are maintained.

Ability to monitor and manage maintenance of stock and equipment to include refrigeration and emergency equipment.

We serve a population of 20,000 patients, covering both Bradford on Avon and Melksham. The current Practice team consists of 6 GP partners, GP Associates, Retained GPs, as well as a multi-disciplined team consisting of Clinical Pharmacists, Emergency Nurses, Practice Nurses, HCAs, Paramedics, Mental Health practitioners as well as non-clinical staff. We are in the process of expanding the team to incorporate further areas of expertise into our multi-disciplinary team.

Running well person clinics and health promotion programmes by providing a holistic assessment and lifestyle advice on diet, smoking, alcohol intake and exercise.

Assessing problems presented opportunistically by patients, dealing with minor illness.

Able to document consultations according to NMC guidelines

Ensures awareness of statutory and local clinical protection procedures, including systems of referral. Ability to recognise signs and symptoms of abuse.

Perform a holistic assessment of patients attending for cervical cytology smear tests.

Perform venepuncture according to local guidelines

Provide a holistic approach to wound management and implement wound care in line with current evidence based guidelines, including Doppler.

Suture removal.
