The Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) is responsible for attending to patients who wish to be seen by a healthcare professional, diagnosing and treating patients presenting with minor illnesses, and advising on continuing medical and nursing needs. The role involves working autonomously and collaboratively with other healthcare professionals to provide flexible, dynamic, and innovative care responsive to the health needs of service users.

• Clinical Practice:Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, diagnose and treat acute and chronic illnesses, and develop individualised care plans.
• Prescribing:Independently prescribe medications and treatments within professional competencies.
• Diagnostics:Order and interpret diagnostic tests and initiate follow-up reviews.
• Patient Education:Provide expert advice to patients, carers, and colleagues, ensuring clinical excellence.
• Collaboration:Work in partnership with GPs, consultants, nursing, and social care colleagues to manage patient care.
• Innovation:Develop new and innovative ways of working to improve care services.

• Qualifications:Must meet the requirements for advanced practice, demonstrating a high level of defined competencies and an enhanced depth and breadth of knowledge.
• Experience:Experience in primary care and the ability to make autonomous decisions and complex judgments.
• Skills:Strong clinical skills, including history taking, physical examination, problem-solving, and clinical decision-making.

• Registered Nurse (RN) Status: You must first be a registered nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
• Experience: Gain significant clinical experience as a registered nurse. This typically involves working in various healthcare settings to build a broad base of clinical skills.
• Master's Degree: Complete a Master's degree in Advanced Clinical Practice or a related field. This program will cover the four pillars of advanced practice:
• Clinical Practice
• Leadership and Management
• Education

• Independent Prescribing Qualification: Obtain an independent prescribing qualification, which allows you to prescribe medications within your scope of practice 2.
• Core Capabilities Framework: Demonstrate competencies against the Core Capabilities Framework for Advanced Clinical Practice, which includes skills in clinical assessment, diagnosis, and management of patients 2.
• Continued Professional Development: Engage in ongoing professional development and meet the NMC revalidation requirements to maintain your registration and stay updated with the latest practices 2.
