Job summary

Experience as HCA in Primary Care or Secondary Care REQUIRED and MANDATORY

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE

  • NHS health checks and new patient checks
  • ECG recording
  • Phlebotomy
  • Spirometry and reversibility
  • Assisting the Practice Nurse with annual reviews; hypertension, CHD, Stroke and Peripheral Arterial Disease.
  • Undertake wound care, dressings and other clinical tasks as required under supervision of the Practice Nurse

Main duties of the job

Bridge Street Medical Centre is an NHS GP surgery based in historic premises in the centre of Cambridge - our building was formerly home to the oldest scientific society in Cambridge, the Cambridge Philosophical Society.Within easy walking distance of the main shopping areas and central colleges (as well as a chocolate shop, a cheese shop and an ice-cream shop!) our fully modernised premises and friendly team assist us in providing all NHS medical services. We work to provide comprehensive healthcare to our registered patients and are committed to providing an excellent service.

We offer a variety of appointments to suit your needs and are usually able to offer you the clinician of your choice. We run on a named doctor basis- you will have an allocated GP who received all of your results and paperwork as well as ordinarily being your first point of contact - with the intention of offering the best possible continuity of care.Our surgery is open all day Monday to Friday from 08.30 to 18.00

You will always have the option to opt-out of being seen by students, but we value your support in helping them to develop clinical excellence.

Health & Safety

The post-holder will implement and lead on a full range of promotion and management their own and others health and safety and infection control as defined in the practice Health & Safety policy, the practice Health & Safety manual, and the practice Infection Control policy and published procedures. This will include (but will not be limited to):

  • Using personal security systems within the workplace according to practice guidelines
  • Awareness of national standards of infection control and cleanliness and regulatory / contractual / professional requirements, and good practice guidelines
  • Responsible for the correct and safe management of the specimens process, including collection, labelling, handling, use of correct and clean containers, storage and transport arrangements
  • Management and maintenance of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for the practice, including provision, ordering, availability and ongoing correct usage by staff
  • Responsible for hand hygiene across the practice
  • Ownership of infection control and clinically based patient care protocols, and implementation of those protocols across the practice
  • Active observation of current working practices across the practice in relation to infection control, cleanliness and related activities, ensuring that procedures are followed and weaknesses / training needs are identified, escalating issues as appropriate
