The Links Medical Practice is a GP Practice that operates from 2 sites in the Borough of Bromley.

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated individual to join our friendly reception team.

The position is permanent, part-time with a flexible shift pattern. Hours of work range between 7:45am - 6:45pm Monday to Friday.

The applicant(s) will be based at either site - Mottingham site - 198 Court Farm Road, London, SE9 4JS andDownham site - 27 Brook Lane, Bromley, BR1 4PX

Main duties of the job

The Prescription Clerk provides support to our Clinicians in the receipt and preparation of repeat prescriptions for our patients and works very closely with Pharmacy and Administrative teams. You will be the main point of contact for enquiries about prescriptions from patients and community pharmacies. As the main contact for this enquiries, a good telephone manner and excellent communication skills are essential.

To thrive in this role you will enjoy utilising your exceptional organisational and prioritising skills, combined with excellent attention to detail. Problem-solving on a day to day basis around issues relating to your work, you will also enjoy working closely as a team to achieve objectives and ensure that your prescription workload is managed in a timely manner.

About us

The practice is managed by 4 GP Partners and the Practice Business Manager.

Additional team members are a further 4 GPs, 3 Physicians Associates and 6 members of the nursing team. There are approximately 15 administrative and reception team members. We also actively collaborate with 2 other practices as a Primary Care Network team.

The practice values each other and the skills individuals contribute to the practice both in terms of daily work schedule and the delivering of patient care.

We are also a training practice for medical students and trainee nurses and we offer excellent support and training, the opportunity to gain new skills and knowledge in a friendly learning environment, and an exciting opportunity for someone who is interested in working in a well-established and growing practice.

Job responsibilities

Duties will include coordinating and preparing repeat prescriptions for our patients, data entry onto patient records, and liaising with patients and community pharmacies. The tasks and responsibilities to be undertaken may include any or all of the items in the following lists, dependent on current and evolving practice workload and staffing levels:

Delivering the technical aspects of prescription preparation to ensure the safeprescribingof medicines.

Delivering an efficient prescription service and ensuring service targets are met and errors are minimized.

Comply with legal and professional requirements, accepted guidance on professional practice, and with safe systems of work for re-authorizing repeat prescriptions.

Run analysis reports and gather information from a variety of sources for continuous improvement, safe management of repeat prescriptions, and to co-ordinate medication reviews or changes.

Liaise with pharmacies on the supply of prescribed drugs, alert clinicians of any supply issues and forward information on the recommended alternatives.

Expedite urgent prescriptions to help ensure a safe and responsive service for our patients.

Respond to enquiries from patients and pharmacies in a courteous, timely and efficient manner, by telephone, letter and email, occasionally face-to-face and maintain precise records of the communications.

  • Qualifications and/or Professional registration
  • GCSE in English and Maths or NVQ equivalent
  • Administration or customer service qualification
  • Pharmacy Services or equivalent NVQ2 or higher qualification
  • Experience of working directly with members of the public in a busy environment
  • Experience of working with patients within in the NHS
  • Previous work as Dispensing Assistant in community or hospital pharmacy
  • Experience of working as part of a team
  • Experience of managing multiple requests via telephone and email
  • Basic IT skills, including use of email
  • Experience of using an NHS clinical IT system
  • Good written communication skills
  • Good verbal skills, can demonstrate ability to deal with members of the public on the telephone
  • Management of multiple tasks / requests in a timely manner
  • Understanding of primary care
