Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic, committed and motivated Health Care Assistant to join our busy, friendly team. We are seeking someone who has experience in working within primary care, ideally NVQ level 3 or equivalent trained, to work within our existing nursing team.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will have a patient facing role with duties that will include: -

  • Phlebotomy
  • ECGs
  • Health screening
  • Administering appropriate injections/vaccines
  • Blood pressure monitoring
  • NHS health checks
  • Clinic assistance
  • Ordering and stock control
  • Act as a chaperone

The applicant must be flexible and willing to undertake additional training to develop clinical skills and competencies relevant to the role as they arise.

About us

We are very friendly, busy training practice with a list size of approx.16,000 patients. Our team comprises of GPs, Practice Managers, Pharmacists, Nurses, HCAs and a very supportive care navigation and admin team. We also have allied health care professionals including Physician Associates, Physiotherapists and Social Prescribers.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Assessment, screening and treatment services and health education advice.

Provide general and specific health screening to the practice patients within agreed protocols with referral to a nurse or a GP as necessary.

Assist in the assessment and surveillance of patients health and well-being including chronic disease patient reviews.

Provide follow-up advice for smoking cessation, diet modification, weight management and other health promotion areas.

Perform new patient checks and NHS health checks

Prepare and maintain environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions including assisting GPs during the performance of minor operations.

Administer injections/vaccinations as appropriate, working within agreed protocols/PSD and following the appropriate training/competency assessment.

Pathological specimens and investigatory procedures

Undertake the collection of pathological specimens including blood and urine samples.

Undertake routine diagnostic tests such as urinalysis, blood pressure monitoring, ECG recording and 24-hour blood pressure monitoring.

Administrative and Professional Responsibilities

Participate in the administrative and professional responsibilities of the practice team

Ensure accurate notes of all consultations and treatments are recorded in the patients computerised records.

Participation in clinical audit, practice research projects and significant event analyses.

Implement infection control requirements.

Assist in Health Promotion displays.

Assist in ensuring that clinical rooms are stocked, as required.

Undertake cleansing, maintenance and calibration of equipment according to the Practice's policy or with the agreement of a practice nurse.

Undertake stock control and rotation and ordering of consumables.

Effectively manage own time, workload and resources.

Act as a chaperone when requested.

Room checks to ensure that the clinical rooms comply with CQC standards.

Liaison

Maintain effective liaison with all other members of the health care team, and other agencies, with appropriate regard to confidentiality and practice protocols and procedures.

Contribute to the effectiveness of the team by reflecting on own and team activities and making suggestions on ways to improve and enhance the teams performance.
