Waterloo Medical Centre is a Primary Care provider based on Waterloo Road in Blackpool. Our services are diverse, forward-thinking, enabling us to deliver care to meet local priorities in relation to deprivation, chronic disease, improved access, migration from secondary care and more efficient commissioning.
We provide high quality general medical care to a registered list of over 12,000 patients, through our dedicated team of clinical, administrative and management professionals.
Waterloo Medical centre is also part of a Primary care Network alongside Bloomfield Medical Centre, serving a population of over 30,000 patients across both practices.
Main duties of the job
The Healthcare Support Worker will provide health promotion and prevention activities, which include phlebotomy, long term health condition monitoring and reviews, including health checks, some injections and vaccinations and offering patients lifestyle advice.
Then post holder is required to have experience in health promotion, prevention, and supporting long-term condition management and have completed the Care Certificate or equivalent qualification.
Main duties of the job include:
- Phlebotomy
- Long Term Condition reviews
- Vaccinations and injections under Patient Specific Direction
- Weight monitoring
- Blood pressure monitoring and ambulatory monitoring
- Health checks
- Urinalysis
- Provide lifestyle advice to patients making any necessary referrals within the practice
- Ensuring specimens are labelled and bagged ready for collection with the necessary paperwork completed.
- Restocking of clinical areas and consulting rooms
- Participate in administrative and professional responsibilities of the practice team
- Ensure accurate and legible notes of all consultations and treatments are recorded in the patient notes
- Ensure accurate completion of all necessary documentation associated with patient healthcare
- Administrative work relating to ordering of stock, room stocking, equipment checks and read coding
- Ensuring collection and maintenance of statistical information required for regular and ad hoc reports
- Attend and participate in practice meetings as required
- To assist in seasonal and special campaigns

Waterloo Medical Centre is well established in the community and has a patient population of over 12,000 patients.
We are a busy, friendly and forward thinking practice which includes 6 GP partners, 3 practice nurses, 1 healthcare assistant, 1 nursing associate, 2 pharmacists, 1 pharmacy technician, 1 physio therapist, 1 care co-ordinator and 12 admin/reception staff.

Job responsibilities
To support health promotion and prevention activities, including smoking cessation, weight management and lifestyle interventions. Supporting patients with long-term conditions and health inequalities.
To assist and support medical personnel int the care of practice patients to include treatment, preventative care, screening and patient education. The post will also include some administrative duties.
To act as a focal point of communication between patients, doctors, nurses and other members of the practice team.
To maintain a safe and effective level of practice and to bring any deficits in training to the attention of the nurse manager so these can be addressed.
General
The HCSW will be required to act in a professional manner at all times and adhere to practice policies, protocols and guidelines.
Full training will be given.
Training requirements will be monitored by yearly appraisal. Personal development will be encouraged and supported by the practice.
