Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Practice Nurse to join our experienced
and enthusiastic team of nurses. We are
looking for someone who is motivated and enjoys working as part of a team.
Previous experience within a GP practice is essential. The vacancy is
part-time, 20 hours per week but with flexibility to cover sickness and
holidays.
Main duties of the job
Duties will include aspects of care, which include long term conditions especially respiratory, childhood
immunisations, cytology, Travel vaccinations, womens health
and treatment room duties and will be responsible for the assessment, planning
and delivery of patient care.

The Birchwood Nursing team comprises of 2 Advanced Nurse Practitioners, 1
Senior Nurse, 2 experienced Practice Nurses and 1 Health Care Assistant who provide
a whole range of practice nursing duties.

Clinical
To provide high quality patient care
- Participate in setting standards for care and auditing clinical outcomes.
- Promote & participate in maintaining a safe comfortable & therapeutic environment.
- Participate in developing strategies and implementing health promotion programmes for clients and carers and facilitate screening clinics
- Take responsibility for the safe storage and administration of drugs and equipment
- Participate in setting and monitoring standards to ensure effective care ensuring delivery of evidence-based practice.
- Provide information, advice and support to patients face to face and via the telephone.
- Involved in team discussions to ensure best practice
- Attend Clinical meetings
Clinical Skills & Administrative duties required (or willingness to be trained):
- To provide new patient checks
- To provide emergency treatment if required
- To assess acute presentation at the surgery in the event of doctors absence
- To provide telephone advice where appropriate
- To attend PHCT meetings
- Fridge temperature log
- Urine testing

- To supervise lower grades of staff.
- Report and record all clinical incidents to Practice Manager.
Maintain and ensure the effective use of clinical stock levels. Recorded Stock Control of all emergency and other medication including dressings etc.
Help and ensure that regular maintenance of medical equipment takes place.

- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals and other health care partnerships.
- To communicate effectively using a variety of communications skills: verbal, & non-verbal, written, and electronic, with a range of individuals and organisations within and external to Birchwood Medical Practice and the NHS.
- Assess individual communication needs and understanding for informed consent.
Education, Training & Research
- To take responsibility for own professional development undertaking training for specific clinical tasks
- Participate in clinical audit
- Participate in research programmes as appropriate.
- Participate in the development and implementation of standards and audit activities.
- Attend all mandatory training courses and the updates and any study days as appropriate to the post
- Attend performance and development reviews with the designated partner.
General
- The Post Holder will be required to work additional hours to cover holidays and sickness.
