Medical Secretary (Maternity cover)

Job summary

We are seeking an organised, efficient, and approachable Medical Secretary to join our team on a fixed-term basis to cover maternity leave. The successful candidate will provide high-quality administrative and secretarial support to our clinicians and patients.

Main duties of the job

  • Make appointments for patients as required.
  • Expedite appointments/tests as required.
  • Query referrals and appointments as necessary.
  • Chase hospital documentation.
  • Provide an efficient audio, copy typing and word processing service for GPs and health professionals as required. This includes the typing of letters, reports, patient referrals, minutes, memorandums, etc. in an accurate and quality manner
  • Use of the PRISM system.
  • Make appointments, bookings, e-referrals, admissions, etc. as required.
  • Liaise and arrange meetings (to include the booking of rooms) as required and to attend meetings and take minutes.
  • Manage the agenda and take minutes for the monthly End of Life/GSF meetings..
  • Assist in the organisation, logging and invoicing for medicals, insurance and all other non NHS work.
  • Receive incoming and initiate outgoing telephone calls in order to facilitate timely and appropriate communications with others, taking messages and dealing with appropriate queries.
  • Action record requests from patients, solicitors and other representatives as required.
  • Assist with processes surrounding a patients death and provide support to medical staff and bereaved families in a sensitive, professional manner.

Any other duties as required as the work of the practice evolves

About us

We are an 12,000 GMS practice working across two sites our main site in Ibstock and our branch surgery (which has a dispensary) in Barlestone.

We have 4 Partners. All our Partners work part time (4 - 6 sessions per week) as we encourage outside interests and a positive work life balance.
