Job summary
The Prescription Coordinator provides support to our GPs, ANP's, pharmacy team and complex care team in the receipt and preparation of repeat prescriptions for our 17,400 patients. You will be the main point of contact for patient enquiries about their prescriptions, so resilience is important. You will be liaising on sensitive medical information, so a caring customer service communication style is essential.
To thrive in this role, you will enjoy the challenge of lots of moving parts that require you to use your exceptional organisational and prioritising skills, combined with top level attention to detail. Problem solving on a day-to-day basis on issues relating to your work. Working alongside three other Prescription Coordinators, you will enjoy working closely as a team to achieve shared objectives and ensure daily priorities are delivered. Patients expect a high standard of service and outstanding customer service, so working as a team to meet and manage these expectations is important.
Main duties of the job
Duties will include co-ordinating and preparing repeat prescriptions for our Patients, data entry onto patient records, EPS and patient and pharmacy liaison. The tasks and responsibilities to be undertaken may include any or all the items in the following lists, dependent on current and evolving practice workload and staffing levels:
- Work with our GPs and pharmacists to provide a responsive repeat prescription service delegated to the prescription team as appropriate.
- Setting up electronic repeat dispensing for eligible patients.
- Synchronising patient medication quantities to reduce medicines wastage.
- Delivering the technical aspects of prescription preparation to ensure the safe prescribing of medicines.
- Delivering an efficient prescription service and ensuring service targets are met and errors are minimised.
- Contribute to the maintenance of a reliable and accurate medication review process within the practice.
- Comply with legal and professional requirements, accepted guidance on professional practice, and with safe systems of work for re-authorising repeat prescriptions.
- Run analysis reports and gather information from a variety of sources for continuous improvement, safe management of repeat prescriptions, and to co-ordinate medication reviews or changes.
- Liaise with pharmacies on the supply of prescribed drugs, alert our clinicians of any supply issues and forward information on the recommended alternatives.

We are a large practice with approx. 17,400 patients serving a diverse community in Bensham, Gateshead. We are part of the Birtley and Central Gateshead Primary Care Network and work closely with the other three practices in our PCN, Birtley Medical Group, Bridges Medical Practice & Second Street Surgery.
We have two sites, one on Oxford Terrace and one on Rawling Road. Our Rawling Road site has recently been extended and renovated and offers fantastic modern facilities. We have a very well used community room which we use to run free exercise and wellbeing classes for patients in addition to various community groups and classes to support patients and staff too.
