Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity to work within our proactive
and dynamic General Practice team delivering modern and innovative care to the local
community. The role offers a prospect for a physician associate to develop as a
primary care clinician within our friendly and supporting team.
As a Physician Associate you will work closely with the GPs
and other clinicians to deliver acute and chronic disease management as well as
proactive and preventative medicine to our patients.
As a training practice we understand very well how important
development and supervision is in the journey to achieve excellence and so a
successful candidate will have agreed a clear development pathway at the start
of the employment which will allow growth with the aim that they settle into
the practice team.
A system will also be in place to facilitate a smooth
process for the management of signing off prescriptions.
We welcome applications from experienced as well as newly
qualified Physician Associates for this role and will continue to support you
with access to supervision and CPD including internship.
Main duties of the job
As a physician associate, you will:
take patient medical histories during face-to-face and/or
telephone consultations
carry out physical examinations
order diagnostic tests and analyse results
make diagnoses and clinical assessments
carry out a range of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures
within the scope of your role
develop and deliver appropriate treatment and care
management plans in consultation with patients, their relatives and carers
organise further investigations, treatment and referral to a
doctor/other healthcare professional where appropriate
evaluate the effectiveness of care management plans
make home visits to patients who are unable to visit the
surgery/hospital due to their condition
provide patients with advice and counselling on health
promotion and disease prevention
maintain accurate clinical records
complete paperwork and other administration duties,
including writing reports, letters and other correspondence.
About us
Firdale Medical Centre is a member of Northwich Primary Care
Network. We currently look after over 10000 patients and mentor and support one
of the local nursing homes.
The practice is led by 4 partners and we employ three
salaried GPs. To complete the clinical team we have three nurses, two
pharmacists and musculo skeletal specialist.
We are also teaching practice supporting foundation and
specialty doctors.

Essential
- Postgraduate Diploma/Master in Physician Associate from an accredited UK University
- Bachelor Degree in Life Science/Biomedical/Nursing or Allied Health Science
- Member of Faculty of Physician Associate Managed Voluntary Register PAMVR
- Valid national certification and recertification every six years stipulated by PAMVR
- For USA trained candidates: Current and valid certification with the National Commission on Certification for Physician Assistants
Desirable
- Basic or advanced Life Support
- Equal Opportunity training in the last three years

- Demonstrable patient assessment skills
- Demonstrates an in depth knowledge of related medical conditions, treatments and pharmacology
- Experience of supporting doctors in clinical decision making
