Innovations in Primary Care (IPC), are a federation of the GP Practices within the Coastal West Sussex area and we are looking for a Pharmacy Technician to work for the ChAMP Primary Care Network (PCN).
Due to the success of integrating the role into our practices, we are looking to expand our team and recruit more Pharmacy Technicians. The successful candidate will work across the sites within the network with peer support and collaboration provided. ChAMP PCN is a group of 8 practices across Chichester which covers Southbourne through to Tangmere. The Pharmacy team consists of 4 Pharmacists and 5 Pharmacy technicians who work together for the needs of the PCN. We are looking to expand our PCN Pharmacy team and Pharmacy Technicians are vital in achieving our long term goal.
The successful candidate will join the ChAMP PCN team of established Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians and if successful to role, you will be based at one of our surgeries who require Pharmacy Technician Support:
- Tangmere Medical Centre,
- Southbourne Surgery
- Cathedral Medical Groups.
This role would be perfectly suited for anyone who lives in the Sussex, Hampshire and Surrey areas due to the location and network links that are available.
Main duties of the job
This is an exciting role in General Practice combining patient-facing, analytical and administrative elements of work. Working alongside a PCN Pharmacy team, the post-holder will help patients to get the best from their medicines by communicating medication changes to agreed and approved protocols, improving repeat prescribing processes in General Practice, including promotion of repeat dispensing and online ordering, minimising clinical risk and aiming to reduce wasted medicines.
The successful candidate will be supported in terms of learning and professional development through regular access to a Clinical Pharmacist supervisor, other Practice staff and through regular Practice team meetings on a variety of topics. As part of a growing Pharmacy Technician Team in IPC there is also a programme of peer support events and team meetings in place

- Support the PCN multi-disciplinary team to ensure efficient medicines optimisation processes are being followed.
- Stream general prescription requests and work the reception teams, so as to allow GPs and clinical pharmacists to review the more clinically complex requests.
- Assist patients with responses to medication queries
- Provide training and support on the legal, safe and secure handling of medicines, including the implementation and increased use of the Electronic Prescription Service (EPS).
- Promote Electronic Repeat Dispensing (eRD) and online ordering as appropriate to patient and practice needs.
- Implement efficient ordering and return processes and reduce medication wastage, liaising with patients as needed.
- Support the implementation of national prescribing policies and guidance within GP practices, care homes and other primary care settings.
- Help to organise and run various systems for the delivery of QOF and locally commissioned enhanced services.
- Review and develop policies in line with CQC compliance.
- Develop relationships with other pharmacy professionals and members of the multi-disciplinary team including primary care, community pharmacy, secondary care and mental health.
- Contribute to the delivery of effective daily processes for the transfer of care between hospitals and GPs including effective signposting, record updates and relate communication.
- Through the use of audit and action planning, help to tackle health inequalities.
