Job summary

We are a very busy 2 partner training practice with a friendly, experienced team of staff. We are looking to recruit a Part Time Dispenser/Pharmacy Technician at Kineton and Tysoe Surgeries on a permanent part-time contract, the position will be between 18 and 22.5 hours plus extra hours when needed to cover leave etc. You will work at both Kineton and Tysoe branches so own transport is essential. The successful applicant must have a current dispensing qualification minimum of level 2 NVQ and experience of working in a dispensary. You must be accurate, self-disciplined, pay attention to detail, be able to prioritise workload, work well under pressure, be able to multi-task, be able to work well alone and as part of a team, be able to follow standard operating procedures, adhere to confidentiality rules at all times, have good communication skills, be computer literate, be confident in your ability but know your limitations and be flexible and able to cover extra shifts when needed.

About us

We are a busy semi-rural Dispensing GP Practice. The main surgery is in Kineton (12 miles from Leamington Spa, Warwick, Banbury and Stratford upon Avon) and the branch Surgery is in Tysoe.

The Practice is owned by 2 GP Partners Dr Jenny Layton-Henry and Dr Raj Kanwar. We are a training Practice so have GP Registrars and Medical Students too and we have 3 salaried GP's.

We dispense to approx. 5400 of our 6900 patients. The Dispensary can be very busy; we have a team of 5 Part-time Dispensers,5 Part-time Dispensary Assistants and a Dispensary Manager.

Job Title: Dispenser

Reports to: Dispensary manager / Practice manager

Job Summary:

To work as part of the dispensing team to provide a safe, accurate, effective and efficient dispensing service to patients on behalf of the practice. To be confident and capable of working independently and as part of the team. To adhere to the practices Standard Operating Procedures, confidentiality policy, local/national regulations, COSHH and Health and Safety policies at all times.

Responsibilities:

To interpret prescriptions and dispense medication accurately and safely as prescribed by the doctors, this includes repeat and acute prescription.

To endorse the prescription form with any necessary endorsements needed to receive appropriate payment from the Prescription Pricing Department.

To have understanding of drug names and their recommended doses and be able to intercept any potential prescribing errors.

To ensure all prescriptions have been signed by a prescriber.

To follow the accuracy checking process thoroughly and accurately when checking items dispensed by yourself or another dispenser.

To maintain patient confidentiality at all times.

To give patient advice/counselling about their medication within your knowledge capabilities and to refer them to GP if needed.

To respond to patient enquiries within the limitations of your role in an efficient and courteous manner and to pass on accurate and relevant information to the appropriate people where necessary.

To maintain dispensary stock levels and ensure good stock rotation.

To ensure that the dispensary sundries (bag, bottles, boxes and labels) are kept replenished and re-ordered when necessary.

To order drugs from appropriate wholesalers or specials manufacturing companies and be aware of which products come from which suppliers.

To ensure all items are stored safely and in the correct conditions.

To ensure all repeat prescriptions are issued and dispensed within the 48 hour window (if ordered online, handed in to dispensary, faxed or scheduled repeat Prescriptions).

To collect all due prescription charges and ensure the patient declaration on the back of the FP10 is filled out correctly and signed by the patient/representative.

To ensure all Dispensary charges are entered accurately in to the cash register and receipts are issued for each transaction.

To accurately cash up daily and weekly takings and be able to rectify any discrepancies due to incorrect entries being made.

To ensure that all audit trail record sheets are completed.

Ensure that the necessary action is taken immediately with product recalls or drug alerts.

To be involved with training and offer support and guidance to new or lesser experienced team members.

To unpack deliveries promptly, ensuring stock is accurately checked off against invoices, expiry dates are checked and any discrepancies are dealt with immediately.

To file invoices appropriately or pass to Finance Clerk if payment is needed.

To follow Wholesalers returns processes for items supplied/ordered incorrectly.

To ensure Fridge lines and Controlled drugs are stored accordingly and the necessary documentation completed.

To make entries in the controlled drugs register when accepting or issuing stock, to check the running total and get each transaction checked and witnessed by a suitably trained person.

To count and sort signed prescriptions separating Paid for and Exempt from prescription charges for each prescriber.

To keep up to date with any changes or new procedures in both the Dispensary and the Practice.
