Job summary
We are looking for a Medical Receptionists ( more recently
titled Care Navigator) to work at Fishergate Hill Surgery. We are looking for
someone to work 30 hours per week on a two-week rotational basis. Previous experience of working in a GP
practice or in the NHS is desirable.
Shift pattern:
week 1 - 8.00am - 3.00pm
week2 - 11.30am - 6.30pm
The ideal candidate would be a proactive individual who can
use their initiative. They will possess excellent interpersonal skills and
enjoy working with patients. The successful applicant must be IT literate.
Main duties of the job
Duties include, although are not limited to:
- Running an effective and efficient reception service
- Dealing with all general enquiries
- Receive and make telephone calls as required and take messages.
- Action repeat prescription requests promptly
- Dealing with the day to day running of the computer system
and entering patient information on to the computer
- Opening mail and ensuring that all correspondence is scanned
and attached to patients computer records.
- Dealing with electronic documents.
- The post holder must be flexible to fit into weekly rota.
- Registering new patients promptly and accurately

potential. We have a registered population of 6500 covering the Preston area.

Fishergate Hill Surgery is part of Preston & South Ribble PCN. We
work collaboratively with our GP practices to offer better services and improve
access for our patients.
The practice is open weekdays 8am to 6.30pm and alternate Saturdays.

Job responsibilities
- Book patient appointments with the appropriate Clinical
staff.
- Carrying out administrative duties which include scanning,
tasks, out of hours reports, new patient registrations, opening and sorting of
post (both internal and external), updating patient details, and data inputting
as requested.
- Processing medication requests, including issuing repeat
medication and appliance items, as well as forwarding patient requests onto the
practice pharmacy team/on-call GP.
- Communicating effectively with local pharmacy staff and
resolving/investigating any queries they may have.
- Signpost patients accordingly using community services where appropriate.
- Opening up/locking up of practice premises and maintaining
security in accordance with practice protocols.
- Carry out chronic disease recalls and vaccination campaigns,
booking relevant appointments working from a list to ensure clinics are fully utilised.
- Informing patients of test results and following up with
instructions from clinicians.
- Keeping the reception area and notice boards clean, tidy,
and up to date.
- Taking payments for private documents from patients and
providing receipts
- Support all clinical staff with general tasks as required.
- To be able to work with people from a wide variety of
cultures and backgrounds, and people with disabilities and learning
difficulties, and to be able to communicate with them (and, when necessary,
their carers) appropriately to facilitate their care and understanding of their
care within the service.
- Attend and positively contribute to team meetings.
- Fully comply with all company Health and Safety
requirements, including reporting all accidents, near accidents, and hazards.
- Treat all patients fairly and with respect.
