Job summary

We are an expanding GP Practice near Bath, with surgeries in Beckington and Frome. We are strengthening our support team within the practice and are recruiting for the following part-time role:

Dispenser/Trainee Dispenser (Part-Time)

We are seeking a reliable, motivated part-time dispenser for our dispensary in Beckington. Relevant experience and/or a dispensary qualification would be beneficial for this role. However, training will be considered for the right candidate. All applicants should have excellent communication skills, be meticulous and well organised with good computer skills.

This position is for 15 - 24 hours per week, including afternoon shifts, some of which may finish at 7pm..

Job responsibilities

JOB TITLE: Dispenser

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE POST: To provide an efficient service to all our

dispensing patients

RESPONSIBLE TO: The Dispensary Manager, the Practice Manager and the Partners

MAIN FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The post holder will be responsible for a range of duties relating to issuing medication and stock ordering, in line with practice policy and legislation and to support the dispensary team in ensuring a high level of service is delivered and effective stock and financial control of the dispensary. Accuracy and attention to detail are important as well as computer literacy. We use EMIS web

  1. Issuing stock items and prepared prescriptions
  2. Collection of prescription charges/checking patient exemption statements and taking payments through cash or card machine.
  3. To ensure that all medicines and appliances dispensed are checked against the prescription and whenever there is doubt about the appropriateness of the item, or about the dose or labelling instructions to check with the authorising doctor or duty doctor.
  4. Operation of efficient stock control appropriate to the needs of the dispensary with the objective of ensuring continuity of supply for patients and minimising wastage
  5. Checking goods as and when they are delivered and recording generic details. Stocking shelves, refrigerators using rotation method.
  6. Ensure drugs are received and stored in an appropriate manner in accordance with manufacturers instructions. Any fridge items are stored at appropriate temperature and temperature control log.
  7. Remove out of date stock from the shelves, refrigerator
  8. Disposal of patient returned unused medicines using the medication waste bins, or any CD to be disposed following procedure.
  9. Issuing, dispensing and checking repeat prescriptions

10. Taking orders for repeats and dealing with queries from support staff

11. Dealing with queries from patients regarding their prescriptions face to face and on the phone

12. Use computer to keep records up to date

13. Ordering Drugs through the computer system to the wholesalers

14. To ensure that all monies received or handled on behalf of the practice are appropriately stored and banked and a record kept of all financial transactions

15. Ensuring the Dispensary area remains clean and tidy

16. Ensure controlled Drugs (CDs) are ordered, handled and recorded appropriately

17. Sorting, stamping and endorsing prescriptions

18. Give advice on HC1 forms or prepayment form to assist patients with costs

Inputting information onto computer

To work flexibly within the team & to provide cover for annual leave/sickness
