Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity at St Peters Hill Surgery, Grantham for a Healthcare Assistant(s) who wants to make a difference in our patients lives. You will provide patient care according to shared protocols and guidelines and play an active role in improving the quality of life for our patients. A comprehensive induction and mandatory training programme will be provided to you, along with continuous on-the-job learning, ongoing e-learning and access to continuous professional development options throughout your career with us and in the NHS. Would consider job share/part time hours for the right candidate. Must have a full, clean valid driving licence and access to a car.

Main duties of the job

Under the supervision of our Registered Lead Nurse and with the support of our experienced Reception and Administrative Team, you will be expected to support the nursing team by undertaking a range of duties. Duties can include but are not limited to ordering, taking delivery of and maintaining clean equipment, carrying out infection control support duties, assisting with preparation of clinical rooms for daily use, clinical waste safe disposal support, undertaking health checks with patients including BMI and blood pressure checks, urine samples, chronic disease checks (appropriate to role), ECGs, phlebotomy, patient guidance and lifestyle advice amongst other important duties to support patient holistic care.

St Peters Hill Surgery in Grantham is situated in the centre of this busy and thriving market town. There are close links to A1, bus and train transportation and ample car parking nearby. The bustling town centre offers a large Morrisons and nearby Sainsburys and Marks and Spencer stores along with many other local shops and points of interest.

We are responsible for the care and support of around 14,700 local people who are our patient population. We are the host site for Granthams extended access hub, through which we are able to offer patients evening and weekend appointments seven days a week. There is the option for the successful applicant to participate in this extra Hub work if this is of interest to you.

Maintaining equipment supplies in clinical rooms and in own treatment room area.

Advice and guidance about healthy lifestyles and signposting to other support services.

Carrying out health checks with patients and supporting other clinical health reviews including home visits to carry out health care reviews as appropriate.

Infection control audits and compliance work (Practice Nurse is Infection Control Lead)

Blood pressure recording and other chronic disease reviews (appropriate to role)

Phlebotomy

Respiratory support to patients with asthma would be an advantage.

  • A positive and dynamic approach to delivering safe and effective care.

  • Must hold a current clean driving license and have access to a car
