Job summary
Highview Medical Centre are looking for a 4 session Salaried GP to work Thursday ( 2 sessions) & Friday (2 sessions).
We are a friendly and
innovative training practice; based in a modern building in Potters Bar. We are
an established team with very low staff turnover and a consistent high
performer in the patient feedback surveys. We are a training practice and believe
in supporting learning, exploring new ideas from our team and working with our PPG
to ensure we provide an excellent service. We hold regular meetings with all
staff groups to ensure we continually grow and learn.

We provide a service to a
patient population of 10,000 patients and as a salaried GP you will be joining a

We offer a competitive salary (to be
negotiated) and use EMIS Web, Docman; Lexacom and AccuRx (but dont worry If you havent used these as we will
happily train you).
Main duties of the job
As a GP at this practice in each sessions you will undertake a clinic of 15 appointments . These are typically a mix of face to face, telephone and online consultations, followed by scripts, Path, Docman and a Home visit ( although we do send allied Healthcare and trainee GP's first so Home visits don't always get allocated). You will also have a duty session either am or PM once a week.
All our work is shared equally amongst our Partners and Salaried team as its important to us to have fair, transparent and consistent systems.
You are supported by an established team of clinicians and an excellent administration team.

- Complying with all legislation applicable to practising medicine
- Conducting physical examinations, tests or procedures to diagnose patients
- Maintaining accurate medical records for all patients
- Making recommendations for lifestyle changes to improve the patients quality of life
- Prescribing medication, treatment or therapy to patients
- Explaining test results and medical procedures to patients
- Training junior Doctors and other healthcare professionals
- Consulting with other Doctors about the specialised needs of some patients
General Practitioner skills and qualifications
General Practitioners should have excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with patients and other healthcare professionals daily. A successful General Practitioner candidate will have various prerequisite skills and qualifications that typically include:
- Counselling skills and the ability to listen actively to patients in a non-judgemental manner
- Patience and a calm demeanour in stressful situations
- Familiarity with computers and commonly used software packages
- Excellent bedside manner and time management skills
- Willingness to continue learning throughout their career
General Practitioner experience requirements
Entry-level positions require the appropriate qualifications and a licence to practise as a General Practitioner.
General Practitioner education and training requirements
Candidates must have completed a five-year degree in medicine that is recognised by the General Medical Council. Candidates CVs also need to reflect a two-year foundation course in general training and a three-year course in general practice. Candidates must also be members of the General Medical Council GP Register and have licences to practise as General Practitioners. It may also be advantageous to choose candidates who are members of the British Medical Association for continued professional development and training opportunities.

Highview allocation of workload
Duty sessions are allocated on a sessional basis and are allocated on a quota basis depending on the number of sessions worked. This is monitored over a 12 week period to ensure allocation is fairly distributed.
Salarieds will get allocated (up to) 30 Docman letters a day ( Max). Partners get more
Blood results are currently distributed to the GPs in that day
Prescriptions are shared equally between GPs in attendance that day
Home Visits are allocated by the duty GP . Typically, the nurse prescriber and Physician Associate are allocated first ; then the trainees; then salarieds; then partners. This means that salarieds do not tend to get allocated often unless the nurse prescriber and or the paramedic is on leave. Or the visit requires a GP as its not appropriate for our allied Health Professionals
We look after two Care Homes and a girls boarding school. These are visited by partners but in their absence then salaried staff are allocated
Debriefs to trainees may be allocated to a salaried GP if their lead trainer is not in. Time is given from the clinical session for this.
