Job summary
We are looking for a friendly and efficient receptionist to join our busy GP surgery team. As the first point of contact for our patients, you will be responsible for providing excellent customer service, managing appointments, and maintaining patient records. We are looking for a part time receptionist to work 3 days a week on Monday 8am to 1.15pm, Tuesday and Thursday 1.15pm to 6.30pm.
Job Summary:
- Receive, assist and direct patients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient and effective way.
- Provide general assistance to the Practice team and project a positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors, either in person or via the telephone.

Deal with all general enquiries, explain procedures, and make new and follow-up appointments.
Using your own judgment and communication skills, ensure that patients with no prior appointment but who need urgent consultation are seen according to practice protocol.
Explain Practice arrangements and formal requirements to new patients and those seeking temporary cover, and ensure procedures are completed.
Give out signed prescriptions, ensuring that the name and address are checked.
Provide patients with any forms or letters prepared for them, ensuring any payments owed are collected and passed to the Practice Manager along with a slip logging the details. Receipts should be given upon request.
Ensure hospital samples are sent in the appropriate colour-coded bags, ready for collection by the courier.
Maintain a clean and tidy reception area at all times.
Identify unfamiliar patients using date of birth and NHS number, in addition to their name.
