Job responsibilities
We are seeking an experienced Phlebotomist to join our team for 37 hours per week.

Working under the direct supervision of the Lead Practice Nurse and strictly in accordance with specific Practice guidelines and protocols, the Phlebotomist will assist the Practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of Phlebotomy Services and contribute to the effectiveness of the team.
Clinically Related Responsibilities:
- Obtaining consent from the Patient to collect blood samples
- Confirmation of the Patients identity by obtaining their full name, date of birth and address
- Collection of sample(s) of blood in accordance to our phlebotomy protocol
- To follow our sharps disposal protocol and to have up to date BLS training
- Ensure that needle stick injury guidelines are followed correctly
- Ensuring samples are stored appropriately
- Accurate, legible labelling of all samples to confirm patient identity and minimise rejected samples
- Recording collection of blood samples in Patients electronic record in accordance with Practice procedure
- Communicate effectively with patients, recognise peoples needs for alternative methods of communication and respond accordingly
- Ensuring that samples are dispatched to the appropriate laboratories in a timely fashion
- Understand and adhered to infection control guidelines
- Ensuring that anomalies are reported to a senior member of staff
- Notify GP/nurse of any significant patient issues
- Liaising effectively with the wider team
- Report any clinical or environmental concerns where appropriate
- Check restock and rotate stock
- Ensure knowledge and compliance of practice policies and procedures
- Input of all patient contact using the clinical system after training
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of practice policy on information governance
Non Clinical Responsibilities:
Under the guidance of the Lead Nurse, undertake any other tasks associated with supporting the Nursing Team which may include, but are not limited to-
Stocking Clinical rooms with supplies
Undertaking Stock Checks

Broad knowledge and ideally experience of phlebotomy in a primary care environment
Use of Clinical IT systems
Knowledge of Information Governance and Caldicott Principles
Understanding of Clinical Governance
Experience of working in a GP Practice (Desirable)
