Job summary
Due
to retirement, we are looking to recruit a full-time Practice Manager for our
GP practice in the village of Bexley, located in South East London.
The
successful candidate should be business-orientated and an enthusiastic
individual with NHS experience and good communication and IT skills, and
excellent organisational skills.
Main duties of the job
As
the Practice Manager you would run the business side of our GP Surgery. You
would be responsible for managing the practice's staff and budgets, developing
its business strategy and making sure that everything runs smoothly.
You
will need both good general management and managing peoples' skills.
In
this role you would need to be an excellent organiser. You would need
accounting and budgeting skills. You would also need business planning skills. You
will provide leadership and management skills to enable the practice to meet
its agreed aims and objectives within a profitable, efficient, safe and
effective working environment. At all times the post holder must act in a
manner consistent with the NHS code of conduct and lead by example.
About us
We are a friendly, high-achieving training practice with a patient list size of 7,300. Our team consists of 5 doctors, a nursing team of 3, a Clinical Pharmacist as well as good admin support. We pride ourselves on our friendly, supportive environment for both patients and staff and an extremely low staff turnover.

Management
and planning
- Contribute
to practice and PCN strategy; formulate objectives and research and develop
ideas for future practice and PCN development.
- Monitor and evaluate performance of
the practice team against objectives; identify and manage change.
- Develop
and maintain effective communication both within the practice and with forging
links with other local practices, education bodies, the LMC and relevant
agencies, and in particular working collaboratively within the PCN.
Financial
management
- Manage
practice budgets and seek to maximise income.
- Understand
and report on the financial implications of contract and legislation changes.
- Manage
practice accounts; submit year-end figures promptly and liaise with the
practices accountants.
- Monitor
cash flow, prepare regular forecasts and report to the Partners.
- Manage
and reconcile bank accounts.
- Monitor
and reconcile income and expenditure statements.

Partners' drawings.
- Manage
and monitor PAYE for practice staff and maintain appropriate records.

appropriate systems for handling and recording of cash and card payments and
petty cash.
Human
resources
- Oversee
the recruitment, retention and supervising of staff.
- Evaluate,
organise and oversee staff induction and training, and ensure that all staff
are adequately trained to fulfil their role.

and implement effective staff appraisal and monitoring systems.
- Keep
abreast of changes in employment legislation.
- Maintain
up-to-date HR documentation (including job descriptions, employment contracts
and employment policies).
Organisational
- Convene
meetings, prepare agendas and ensure distribution of minutes as necessary.

Practice protocols and procedures, review and update as required.
- Ensure
that the Practice premises are properly maintained and cleaned, and that
adequate fire prevention and security systems are in place.
- Develop
and review Health and Safety policies and procedures and keep abreast of
current legislation.

that the Practice is compliant and suitably prepared for inspections by
external bodies such as CQC.
- Arrange
appropriate insurance cover.
- Ensure
that the Practice has adequate disaster recovery procedures in place.

appropriate maintenance for Practice equipment.

a strategic approach to the development and management of patient services.
- Ensure service development and
delivery is in accordance with local and national guidelines.

- Develop a method of increasing the
practices list size while following NHS guidelines and ensuring suitable
capacity is in place.
- Oversee repeat prescribing systems.
- Oversee and manage an effective
appointments system.
- Organise surgery timetables, duty
rotas and holiday cover.

management system.
- Liaise with our Patient Participation
Group and attend regular bi-monthly meetings.

abreast of the latest developments in primary care IT and update the practice
management team.

targets and monitoring standards for data entry and collection.

that the practice has effective IT data security, back-up, maintenance and
disaster recovery plans in place.
