Job summary

Dispensary assistants are essential to the proper functioning of a dispensary. you will work with other members of the team in the practice dispensary and are responsible for a wide variety of tasks, both with patients and within the dispensary. The environment in which a dispensary assistant works can be fast paced and have a duty of care to patients which requires high accuracy and patience, You will require a friendly, approachable and professional manner.

Part time 20 hours a week plus overtime.

Main duties of the job

Tasks will include taking in, preparing and giving out prescriptions. Deliver excellent patient care. Perform administration duties, serving patients both face to face and on the phone. Order, recieve and put stock away. efficiently deal with patient queries. Processing repeat prescription requests.

About us

Minster is a large village with a rural population with the surgery at the centre. Minster surgery is a partnership of 5 GPs, working along side a diverse team of nurses, clinical pharmacists and HCAs. Minster is part of the CARE kent PCN and works closely with 5 other like minded practices.

About the Role

We are looking for a reliable and detail-oriented Primary Care Dispensing Assistant to join our busy primary care/GP dispensing team. You will play a vital role in supporting the safe and efficient dispensing of medicines and providing an excellent service to our patients.

Working under the supervision of a pharmacist or dispensing lead, you will assist with prescription processing, stock management, and patient-facing duties in line with all relevant policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the accurate dispensing and preparation of prescriptions
  • Label and assemble medicines for patient collection
  • Provide a professional and courteous service to patients and carers
  • Manage stock levels, expiry dates, and medicine storage
  • Support repeat prescription processing
  • Maintain accurate records and patient confidentiality
  • Follow all health & safety, infection control, and governance requirements

  • NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Services or working towards
  • GCSEs or equivalent in English and Maths
  • Experience in a healthcare, pharmacy, or customer service environment
  • Knowledge of medicines handling processes
  • Good IT skills

Desirable

  • Previous experience in a GP dispensing practice or pharmacy
  • Primary care or dispensing software
