We are looking to recruit an experienced, enthusiastic, highly motivated and committed nurse to join our team
The role will be based across our two sites. The working pattern can be negotiated.
Main duties of the job
Main Duties
The successful candidate with be responsible for the delivery of Practice Nursing care to the practice population that is both evidence-based and follows local and national guidelines. This will include general treatment room, preventative care, and patient education.

Job responsibilities
Job Description
Duties may include any of the following, subject to necessary training, and supervision where required.
· Venepuncture,
· Wound care,
· Removal of sutures/clips,
· Ear syringing,
· Immunisations/therapeutic injections to adults and children, in accordance with local PGD’s,
· Record ECG’s,
· General observations,
· Cervical screening,
· Health education,
· Onsite near patient testing
· Meet the requirements of revalidation with the NMC and work in accordance with the NMC code of conduct
· To supervise and support health care assistants
· To provide emergency/urgent care as arises in the surgery
· To undertake any additional duties as needed by the team once provided with the appropriate training.
· Involved in maintenance of equipment and stock levels, including emergency equipment
· Ensure that infection control/ health and safety measures are met, and report concerns to the Nurse Manager.
· Participate in meetings/training as required by practice team.
· Ensure accurate, timely records of all consultations are recorded in computerised records.
· Participate in education and training of students and new members of practice staff.
· Communicate effectively with all members of practice team, other agencies, and disciplines
· Maintain continuing education by attending courses and study days as deemed necessary.
· Attend annual appraisal and participate in clinical supervision
HOUSEKEEPING AND FACILITATION
· Ordering and controlling stock in treatment room and doctors’ surgeries
· Maintenance of injectable and oral drug stocks
· Advice to reception staff
· General liaison with hospital, laboratory, social services, etc
· Maintenance of emergency treatment stock and emergency drug bag supplied by PCT
· Maintenance and supervision of sterile procedures throughout the surgery
· Advice to manager regarding health and safety aspects
· Booking patients to see doctor when appropriate
· Liaising with other nurses and GPs for guidance and advice on patient care
ADMINISTRATION AND CLERICAL WORK
· Liaise with colleagues and Practice Manager on staffing needs and holiday cover
· Maintenance of patients’ records – entering accurate and appropriate details onto manual and computerised records
· Keeping up to date with clinical procedures
· Following appropriate procedures for practice claims
· Teaching other staff where appropriate
· Liaising with community colleagues on development of integrated team
· Attending regular primary care meetings with colleagues, GPs, practice manager, community staff
TRAINING AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
All practice and community nurses must have full RGN (or equivalent) registration with the UKCC as a minimum. Removal from the UKCC register for any reason is likely to result in immediate suspension/dismissal.
Whaddon Healthcare is committed to encouraging the enhancement of professional skills and personal development. Paid study leave is offered as part of this process, but each nurse is personally responsible for maintaining their own post graduate study portfolio necessary for UKCC registration – within the practice this can be contained within a Personal Development Plan, facilitated by the practice manager.
Nurses are invited to work with the doctors to share ideas and develop clinical protocols.
Awareness of the strategy of the new NHS is an important part of practice nurse development, as is working with community staff to enhance delivery of care to patients. Integrated team working is encouraged by the practice and PCT.

In addition to the duties listed above, the practice nurses are expected to carry out other procedures considered as appropriate for a general practice nurse (to their level of qualifications and experience). In some instances, additional training will be required to accomplish this.
