Job summary
We have a fantastic opportunity for a Pharmacy Tech to join our PCN, to
help support our growing team of Clinical Pharmacists and Pharmacy Techs. We are
looking for a team-orientated and motivated individual who shares our
enthusiasm for improving patient care.
Main duties of the job
An experienced pharmacy technician, with a relevant pharmaceutical
qualification, be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) and
have completed or be enrolled on the CPPE Pathway into GP Practice. You should be enthusiastic, self-motivated
and well organised.
About us
Watergate Primary Care Network is made up of 3 friendly practices,
Narrowcliff, Newquay Health Centre and Petroc Group Practice, which is a total
of 6 GP surgeries, representing approximately 48,000 patients. These are a mixture
of dispensing and non-dispensing practices. You may be required to work across
these sites, and will work with our other pharmacy techs and clinical
pharmacists in the network.

The Primary Care Pharmacy Technician will work alongside the practice Clinical Pharmacist to support the practice clinical team in all aspects of prescribing and medicines safety. The purpose of this role is to lead improvements to maximise safe and best practice in prescribing and improve the quality of patient care. You would be a point of contact for patient enquiries about their prescriptions.
The post holder will:
- help patients to get the best from their medicines through effective medicines reconciliation after discharge and on other transfers of care, identification of patients suitable for electronic repeat dispensing, promotion of online ordering, providing assurance of monitoring of high-risk drugs, and handling of prescription queries within the areas of competence.
- Provide a patient facing and supporting role, your key responsibilities will include:
- support the clinical pharmacist and practice clinical team to ensure the delivery of safe, effective and efficient systems for repeat prescribing, medicines optimisation, reducing medicines waste, and maximising patient outcomes;
- resolve prescription-related issues and encouraging better pharmaceutical understanding with patients and throughout the primary health care team, including practice clinical and non-clinical staff, attached practice staff, care homes and community pharmacies;
- improve the quality and safety of prescribing and medicines optimisation within the practice.

- At least 4 GCSEs (9-4/A*-C), including English, maths and two science or equivalent qualifications
- Have an accredited qualification such as:
- BTEC National Diploma in pharmaceutical science
- NVQ/SVQ level 3 in pharmacy services
- National Certificate in pharmaceutical science
- Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
- CPPE Pathway into GP Practice (or intent to gain CPPE Pathway into GP practice)
- Hold a current full driving licence
