General Practice Assistant (GPA)

Job summary

As a General Practice Assistant your focus will be to offer professional, high-quality customer service as the first point of contact within the practice, as well as provide a range of administrative services. This will include arranging appointment, referrals, test and follow-up appointments, work collaboratively with the practice team to meet the needs of our patients and supporting the delivery of policy and procedures.

Main duties of the job

  • Ensure total familiarity with all appointment systems including regular and incidental variations.
  • Book appointments and recalls ensuring sufficient information is recorded.
  • Monitor effectiveness of the system and report any problems or variations to the Reception manager.
  • Helping the nursing team with the clinical admin and referrals.
  • Sort clinical post and refer to the appropriate person.
  • Extract information from clinical letters that needs coding and adding this to patient notes.

  • Operate the front desk and provide excellent customer service to patients and visitors in the practice
  • Complete patient tasks by arranging follow-up appointments and sorting referrals
  • Signpost patients to the correct service
  • Manage the generic practice email and sort queries appropriately
  • Manage all queries as necessary in an efficient manner
