Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to work as a Lead Nurse within a up and coming practice. High Street Surgery is in a period of change and turnaround, working toward better outcomes for our patients with a relatively new team.

This position has become available due to career progression within the practice. We are looking for an experienced lead nurse to support and manage a dedicated team. The lead nurse will ensure high quality patient care is provided and drive clinical excellence. You will develop staff potential and motivate your team though mentoring, appraisals and learning events. You will contribute to quality improve initiatives. This is a very exciting opportunity for an experienced lead nurse or those seeking career progression.

Main duties of the job

The post holder is responsible for ensuring the delivery of safe and effective Nursing Care to the whole practice population. As the overseeing manager for the Practice Nursing Team the role will provide clinical direction and leadership for these professionals. The role will include oversight of clinical policies and procedures, infection control and day to day delivery of clinical care. This is a brilliant opportunity for either an experienced Nurse Lead looking to develop in an innovative single site practice or for a Nurse looking to take the next step in their career.

Job responsibilities

You will be required to:

Support the development of others to maximise staff potential in the team.

Identify the potential for service developments, risk and deficits and inform practice manager making recommendations based on specialist knowledge

Undertake one-to-ones, appraisals, regular Practice Nurse and HCA meetings, clinical education, and other practice-wide learning events and meetings.

To provide routine nursing care to patients as required in accordance with clinical based evidence, NICE and the NSF

As the Clinical lead, you will have overall line management responsibility for the Practice Nursing Team

Play a key role in our clinical governance and overall practice management team.

Act as a clinical leader in the delivery of practice nursing services to patients, ensuring that the needs of the patient are the priority.

Attend regular practice meetings.

Lead the nursing team in the planning and implementation of local guidelines, protocols, and standards, as well as local projects or initiatives.

Ensure health and safety and infection control are high priorities, supported by other members of the team.

Work with our Practice Management team to ensure we monitor practice performance of QOF and LCS regularly to achieve high standards of patient care.

Take responsibility for own development, learning, and performance, including organising clinical supervision where appropriate and acting as a positive role model.

Work to support staff wellbeing and development.

Quality improvement

Work with colleagues and management team to ensure that we focus our clinical time to maximum benefit of patients and that our systems and processes support staff to focus on what matters most.

To administer medication for patients in accordance with PGDs and own scope of practice

To provide guidance to patients in the use of prescribed and over-the-counter medications regarding side effects and dosages

To oversee the provision of wound care services to patients

To co-ordinate the provision of travel medicine services

To request pathology services as necessary

To process pathology results as required

To maintain accurate clinical records in conjunction with existing legislation

To ensure read codes are used effectively by all members of the nursing team.

To chaperone patients where necessary

To prioritise health issues and intervene appropriately.

To support the team in dealing with clinical emergencies

To implement vaccination programmes for adults and children

To liaise with external services/agencies to ensure the patient is supported appropriately (vulnerable patients etc.)

To delegate clinical responsibilities appropriately (ensuring safe practice and the task is within the scope of practice of the individual)

To support the clinical team with all safeguarding matters in accordance with local and national policies
