Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide high-quality, patient-centred general practice care within a friendly and supportive team. The role includes delivering routine and urgent GP consultations, managing acute and long-term conditions, and making appropriate clinical decisions in line with current guidance.
The GP will work closely with the wider practice team to ensure safe, efficient patient care, including reviewing results, correspondence and clinical tasks arising from consultations. There is an expectation to contribute to maintaining high clinical standards, patient experience and practice performance.
The role offers the opportunity to be involved in clinical governance, quality improvement and ongoing learning, while supporting a positive, collaborative practice culture. Flexibility, good communication skills and a proactive approach to general practice are essential.
About us
The Chelsea Practice is a friendly, well-established GP practice based in Chelsea, SW3, close to the Kings Road. We serve a list of approximately 6,500 patients and are proud of our strong reputation for delivering high-quality, patient-centred care.
Our clinical team consists of two GP partners and four salaried GPs, supported by an experienced nursing, administrative and reception team. We work in a collaborative, respectful and supportive environment, with a shared commitment to high professional standards, clinical governance and continuous improvement. The practice is a consistently high QOF achiever and values thoughtful, evidence-based medicine.
We operate from excellent, purpose-built premises within a health centre, benefiting from close working relationships with community services. We are a paper-light practice using Systmone and place importance on efficient systems, good communication and staff wellbeing. The post holder will provide high-quality, patient-centred general medical services to our registered population, working collaboratively with the wider practice team to maintain excellent clinical standards, patient experience and practice performance.
Clinical Responsibilities
- Provide safe, effective and evidence-based primary medical care to registered patients
- Undertake face-to-face, telephone and online consultations as appropriate
- Manage acute and chronic medical conditions in line with best practice and NICE guidance
- Conduct routine and urgent appointments within agreed practice sessions
- Undertake home visits where clinically appropriate, with support from community services
- Review and action clinical correspondence, investigation results, discharge summaries and OOH reports
- Prescribe safely and cost-effectively in accordance with practice and local prescribing policies
- Make timely and appropriate referrals to secondary and community care services
- Ensure accurate, contemporaneous clinical record keeping and coding using SystmOne
Administrative & Professional Duties
- Complete associated clinical administration arising from consultations (results, referrals, reports, follow-up)
- Participate in practice systems for workflow, tasks and document management
- Contribute to QOF, enhanced services and other contractual obligations as required
- Support safe and efficient practice processes, including liaison with the reception and administrative teams
- Maintain up-to-date mandatory training, appraisal and revalidation requirements
