Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for a clinical coder to join our friendly team. Working with the document management team, you will be responsible for day-to-day document workflow, interpretation of clinical correspondence and coding onto patient notes.

An understanding of medical terminology is essential.

You will work within a document management team, overseeing the flow of correspondence within the building from postal mail, clinical emails, patient correspondence.

Main duties of the job

You will work with the document management team, mostly responsible for reading and interpreting clinical documents, coding the relevant information onto patient records and analysing whether the document needs to be reviewed by a clinician.

You will be aided by a clear proforma of which documents require GP review. You will highlight to clinicians any actions they need to take. You will code any relevant clinical details onto patient records to ensure there is a contemporaneous record of patient's clinical journey. The coding will ensure that clinical information is readily and easily available to any clinician who may come into contact with the patient.

Confidentiality is a cornerstone of the role, and the ability and willingness to cross cover within the team. This may involve scanning of documents, responding to patients, opening postal mail.

About us

Holmes Chapel Health Centre is based in the small town of the same name. In the heart of Cheshire, we are a semi-rural practice, with an expanding population currently standing at nearly 13000 patients. We have an expanding clinical team, soon to include 8 GP's, 3 ANP's, 4 Practice nurses and 2 Health Care Assistants. As a training practice we often have GP trainees, junior doctors, student nurses and ancilliary staff.

We have 2 medical secretaries, a full dispensary and separate front of house office staff. The document management team is led by our Deputy Practice Manager and is a small 'team within a larger team'.

The GP's are friendly and supportive and career development is encouraged.

  • National Clinical Coder Qualification is desirable unless there is previous clinical coding experience.
