Research Nurse/Research Practitioner

Job summary

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated Research Nurse/Research Practitioner to support the delivery of clinical research within our practice.

You will play a key role in supporting our participation in a wide range of primary care research studies, working closely with clinicians and external research networks such as the NIHR Clinical Research Network. This is an exciting opportunity to be involved in improving patient care and contributing to the development of evidence-based practice.

Main duties of the job

You will work as part of the primary care team to support the safe, effective, and ethical delivery of research studies within the practice.

We are looking for someone with excellent organisational and communication skills, who is methodical and passionate about research in healthcare. Prior experience in research is desirable but not essentialwe welcome applications from nurses or other registered healthcare professionals (e.g. paramedic, pharmacist) who are interested in developing a career in clinical research and are willing to undergo training.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and support the set-up and delivery of research studies at the practice
  • Screen and recruit eligible patients in line with study protocols and ethical guidelines
  • Obtain informed consent from participants and ensure documentation is compliant
  • Collect and manage study data accurately and securely
  • Liaise with research sponsors, study teams and the NIHR Clinical Research Network
  • Ensure all activity complies with Good Clinical Practice (GCP), research governance, and Information Governance standards
  • Attend relevant meetings and training sessions as needed
  • Promote research awareness within the practice and help embed research in routine care

Administration and Professional responsibilities:

  • Maintain annual registration with the NMC or Health and Care Professions Council, and adhere to the code of professional conduct
  • Maintain accurate patient records in line with NMC standards of record keeping, using READ codes to ensure accurate retrieval of information for monitoring and audit purposes
  • Organise and prioritise own workload and manage effectively, being adaptable to deal with emergency situations when needed
  • Act always in a way to protect the confidentiality of patients and maintain the integrity of the patient/health carer relationship.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and apply principles of Information Governance
  • Work effectively as a member of a team, maintaining a caring environment through the support of colleagues
  • Always be aware of own limitations, working within scope of own competence

  • Identify and report significant events, following procedures related to professional standards
