Job summary

Cranbrook Medical Practice (CMP) has an exciting new salaried role to support career development and areas of special interest for salaried GPs looking to take the next steps in their professional path.

Depending on the individual and their experience this could be between 6 - 8 sessions per week on a standard BMA contract (6 weeks annual leave, one week study leave pro rata).

Additional training (if required) and administrative time will be included in the job offer and role description which can be tailored to the individual. Partner mentoring will also be included.

Main duties of the job

Whilst managing a caseload and dealing with a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting and ensuring the highest standards of care for all patients, the post-holder will also lead on clinical areas and projects to enhance the practice, benefit team members and support patients operationally and strategically.

About us

CMP is situated on the outskirts of Exeter, just off the A30, close to the airport and M5 and serves Cranbrook and the surrounding areas.

Cranbrook is a new build town and we currently have just over 5,000 patients with the list size projected to increase to nearly 20,000 over the coming years as and when housing stock is released.

Currently there are three Partners - a GP Partner, a Nurse Partner and a Non Clinical Managing Partner. We have a salaried GP, an ANP, two Practice nurses, GP Assistants and a range of admin and reception staff.

The vision of CMP is to provide a high-quality health centre of excellence delivering wider health services to the community locally whilst continuing to listen to our patients and provide a caring experience and excellent patient outcomes.

We are a forward-thinking dynamic practice with a dedicated support team of administrative and navigation colleagues.

Job responsibilities

Patient Care

In accordance with the Practice session timetable, you will be available to undertake a variety of duties including surgery and telephone consultations (including a fair share of the extended hours rota), visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions, dealing with lab results, queries, paperwork, reports, and correspondence in a timely fashion.

Take the lead role of responsible duty doctor as part of a rota.

Make professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation.

Assess the healthcare needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems.

Prescribe in accordance with the Practice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate.

Support other staff such as GP trainees, PCN allied staff, ANPs and nurses with clinical queries.

Represent the practice at CQC and NHS/ICB quality monitoring inspections if required.

Adhere to safeguarding requirements and deal appropriately with complaints, incidents and alerts using practice systems and policies.

Record clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards.

Collect data for audit purposes and for compliance with QOF requirements.

Alert other team members to issues of quality and risk.

Reflect and assess own and team performance.

Work effectively with other agencies to meet patients needs in a person-centered way.

Effectively manage own time, workload, and resources.

Leadership and Development

Lead on clinical areas and projects to develop the practice and enhance offerings to patients operationally and strategically.

Mentor and provide clinical supervision for a multi-disciplinary team, which may include nursing and administrative teams.

Commit to learning and audit to ensure evidence-based best practice.

Meet CPD requirements and keep personal, mandatory and/or organisational training up to date, including any training programme implemented by the Practice as part of this employment.

Assess own performance and take accountability for own actions, either directly or under supervision.

Operational Delivery

Support the practice in achieving contractual targets by leading on areas and mentoring staff who also lead on areas.

Participate and lead in opportunities for new or expanding services at the surgery to support the practice development plan.

Make suggestions and act on ways to improve and enhance the team or practices performance using own, colleagues or patient feedback to promote You Said, We Listened, We Took Action.

Engagement

Maintain mutually beneficial working relationships with all stakeholders, for example NHSE, ICB, CQC, Local Authorities, LMC etc.

Participate in the PPG and attend PPG meetings where required.

Communicate effectively with other team members, patients, and carers.

  • Sound knowledge of clinical governance, including audit and care improvement activities.
  • MBBS or equivalent medical degree.
  • Full registration with GMC (including GP Register).

  • Analytical Thinking.

Desirable

  • GP trainer or educational supervisor.
  • Competence in minor surgery and DFSRH/ LOC and ability to train others in these.
